Check-in or Carry..What would you do?
With the change of baggage rules what does everyone plan on doing? Checking their bags, or carrying on as much as possible?
I'm voting for carrying on my bags to minimize the slow down, but I could be convinced otherwise. |
I always carry everything on whenever possible, to avoid the wait on arrival and to eliminate the chance of misrouting. This just gives me a third reason. On those rare occasions that I check something, it's because it's too big to carry on, so this won't change my behavior beyond making me get to the airport earlier than I'd have to otherwise.

I have to agree with Efram. Even during good times, I try NOT to check luggage... the current situation just makes it more prudent. Of course, I am expecting that will mean less overhead space as everyone brings on more and more.
I just hope the security checkpoints enforce the carry on rules. William |
Well, on the brighter side of all this checked baggage fuss -- at least your elite status (regardless of level) will be much more valuable, now that you'll be cutting a significantly longer line. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

There is nothing i can do. I'm always out 2 weeks at a time...i had to check-in my luggage. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I checked my bag just for the heck of it on NW at IAD and the check in part was perfect, no lines or anything.. Now lets see if my bags get there after two connections (DTW and IAH)

I too love to travel without checked bags, but with the new security rules, how is one to shave or cut their nails while on a road trip....(no razor blades, nail clippers or scissors allowed still ?)
Sounds flippant, but this is a serious pain on a one week trip.... |
Always carry on. Never check.

I've taken razors (safety kind) and nail files (the pointy kind) in my carry-on (both domestic and international) several times in the last few weeks. It seems to me that some teeny tiny bit of sense is slowly coming back to security and these are now allowed. ------------------ I Love New York |
Folks, the question is this -- what delay? According to every single news report I have heard, there is no delay. Nor should there be. You're not the one doing the checking of the bags, the airline is. If the plane is going to be delayed because they are screening someone's luggage or because someone didn't make it on board, it makes no difference to you if you have checked a bag or not.
There's no need to change your behavior because of this new procedure. |

I always check bags....do not like the wait to check my bag or the dirty looks I get if the line is held up. In all the years I have traveled my checked luggage has only been "delayed" once. This might be a "girl" thing as I personally don't like to carry, push or pull bags down the terminal corridors.

Checked 1 bag, the agent called a uniformed baggage security guy to take the bag. He looked at it & put it on the regular belt. Upstairs to the security lines and I was told to take the first one (nobody in it) as that was the PE line. About 8-10 in each of the other 3 lines. I watched as MOST of the people on the other side of security were being wanded, taking off shoes, having bags hand checked, etc. I put all my metal stuff, cellphone and wallet in my carryon. Put my laptop in tray on belt and breezed through detector first pass. Picked up my bags and waded past a sea of barefooted folks being MAJORLY screened/wanded. Almost felt guilty, but that passed quickly. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif This compared to a nightmare I went through last week in PDX at AS security and again at the gate. The only thing consistent about it is still the inconsistency, random or not. |
