As for award booking, I like how ba.com lets you book one-way award travel for half the miles of a round-trip award. I recently booked a trip to Russia through London using my BA miles. When I tried to book it as a round trip, there was no availability. But when I broke it down to one-ways, I saw which segment was causing problems and instead booked an open jaw (LHR to SVX then SVO to LHR ). I don't mind taking a train between Ekaterinburg and Moscow, so the open jaw is much more convenient than having to buy a revenue ticket. You can use this same feature to book first class one way and coach the other.
