Difference Hertz#1 Gold - AVIS Preferred ?
Please advise me: does AVIS Preferred match Hertz#1 Gold?
I rent often use Hertz#1 Gold for renting in SFO, SEA, SNA, DEN, ORD and MCO. I appreciate the fast service (no queing, direct to the car etc, and often I pay the $4/day for the fabulous Navigation--System = "Never lost").
Does AVIS Preffered match this? (I have a voucher from UA to apply for a free one-year-membership).

Rudi ~ I'm an Avis Preferred member primarily, and I am Hertz Gold, though I have never used it.
For Avis the service is usually very fast in major airports. They drop you off at or near your car and you leave and that's it. It's not quite the same, and probably one small stop lower from Hertz. If the weather was bad, I'd probably prefer Hertz with the canopies, but personally I go for whoever is least expensive on personal trips, and I have to go with Avis on business trips.
I would just recommend giving Avis a try since it is free for you.

BTW, for anyone interested in giving Avis Preferred a try, you can get a free membership simply by requesting an application online at:
http://www.avis.com/special_services/preferred_service.html
It says that they will waive the fee for the coming membership year, but my membership has been fine for the past 20 months, and they have yet to ask me to pay a fee.
I've heard from others too with Hertz that if you use your membership they won't ask you to pay the fee ... guess they don't want to alienate their best customers by asking for more money ...

sorry - just one more question: can I expect a comparable navigation-system as with hertz (when I reserve it with hertz they only confirm this system "subject to availability" - but till now at SNA, SFO, SEA, ORD, MCO it always worked out). And I am sure - I won at least half an hour with every rental not being lost - finding the right address on the spot.

Rudi, Avis has such a system, but I don't know what the availibility of the system is. You may want to call Avis and ask them about availability of the system in the cities you need.
