Flying in cowboy boots
Anyone out there try to get through security wearing cowboy boots? There can be a lot of metal if they have steel shanks and they will set off the security scanners/wands. In the past, they have always waved me through (who knows what kind of metal I had hiden in my boots). I'm assuming I will need to take them off to get through security now. And no, I don't have any other shoes.

Hans, Im with you on flying with boots.... I use Carpincho boots (Argentine Cowboy 'Gaucho' Boots) that dont have metal, but for someone that understand the love for boots I see why you dont want to use anything else.
In any event, Ive seen people taking off their shoes to get Xrayed (also high platform shoes or even sneakers), so apart from that inconvenience you should be fine.

Don't fret none about it. When cowboy boots are outlawed, only outlaws will wear cowboy boots. If you give up your boots cuz of of some mealy-mouthed terrerists, it's just plum wrong. So jes buck up you big galloot and yank'em if you hafta. And if yer dogs are just this side of skunk them Feds won't try that stunt again. Jes make sure the sh*t is on the outside and not on the inside.

Always wear my cowboy boots when traveling. Never had a problem with security. They're always shined up, very comfortable, and I call them my "lucky boots" when I'm in Vegas.
By the way, they're Dingos.

I generally wear 10 inch black combat boots with steel toes. They hand wand them and when they beep I just say "steel toes" and then I get waved on through.
Even though I could have any number of weapons inside the boots, I have never been asked to remove them.

I've stopped wearing my boots when flying. I used to always wear my ropers (round toe, low heal, steel shank). Dealing with security simply became more of a hassle than it is worth. No problems with leather loafers.
