Worldbanker,
To be honest with you, the mileage run will not be affected, because it is none of anyone's **** business, other than my own, if I choose to spend the weekend on a plane for the purpose of achieving status on an airline. No terrorist, politician, or airline had better change that, becuase if they do, then I've got to find another country to call home. Is is all about civil liberties, and we had better not lose sight of that in the interests of "safety" coming weeks. These civil liberties are what separates the USA (and a few other enlightend countries) from the rest of the world. Sean (an American living in Toronto, not meaning to sound too crabby) |
By the way, speaking of civil liberties, does it bother anyone that the software running this board censors a word like d-a-m-n?
Looking at my message, having the "*'s" makes it look a lot worse than I intended. Aren't we all adults here? [This message has been edited by skofarrell (edited 09-13-2001).] |
How about being a sky marshall and doing mileage run. Instead of paying being paid and collecting miles! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The most likely effect will be the loss of some international carriers who are losing money anyway, but will be harmed by a down turn in the economy which is coming now.
AA and UA may collapse or shrink if the UA threads are to be believed. I think what we know is nothing! Everything is specualtion but I expect an initial clampdown - for example the ban on in-bound non US carriers flights - in the short term. I suspect that for all of us things will never be the same again on a number of levels. |
The airlines will use the current crisis to reduce the number of flights. Fewer seats lead to higher prices. Unfortunately, we will probably lose some discount carriers as a result of the economic pressure that is going to come to bear. Midway already has left the scene. Even if you don't use them, those carriers have acted as a discipline, by keeping fares on the majors lower than they might have been. Presumably the new "heightened heightened" security (the old "heightened" (singular) having been more effective at catching people with tickets in other people's names) may cause you to have to explain exotic routings, but I agree with the earlier statement that it's nobody's business.
