ethics with miles ?
hi!
a small prob. i recently travelled overseas, and i was just checking my NW account and one of the segments has been credited twice (for 2 diff dates). abt 4000 miles, so not a mean amount, and something i could really use for reaching elite status. what to do ? let it be, and let them get back ? write to NW pointing out the mistake ? regards IaLTO [This message has been edited by IaLTO (edited 04-11-2001).] |
I would point the error out. If you don't you are setting yourself up for a problem later. They may audit your account (all airlines do once in a while) and if it is late in the year and you make a status level based on the mistake and they take it away, it could put you in a bind to make the status otherwise.

I agree with Baze... who knows, they might tell you to keep the miles... but good Karma (right Punki?) will come your way for being honest.

I once had an error (only 500 status miles), notified DL, and they took them away .....
|
And don't forget about all those miles that forgot to post. You remember, the miles that you kept calling them about, over and over again. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

decided. returning them.

How can you get into trouble for something you never noticed???
|
I agree with the previous comment - what about those times that your miles weren't posted or you lost your ticket & had no proof of flight, even though the airline could see that you had flown with them from their computer systems ??!!!
I've never yet heard of an airline ringing up to say that they'd found a glitch in their system and they were ADDING miles to your account due to an error. |
Simply good business.

Some people don't check their frequent flier accounts until they need to redeem miles. Interpret as you will.

Well done IaLTO. Integrity still exists!
I believe it was Kafka's Law of Universal Morality that (paraphrased) has you ask of a given action: If everyone else in the world did this same action, would the world be a better or worse place? In this case, I believe the "everyone" includes airline customer service staff and bean counters who would likewise maintain integrity on their side too. Interesting thread IaLTO. Thanks. |
Maybe you were eligible for a double miles bonus on one your segements.
Depending on which airline you flew, bonus miles don't always show up on the same day as the flight. |
Two wrongs do not make one right. So stop those nonsenses "how about when airlines owe you... etc".
