march-25 Summertime
march-25 Summertime clocks in (most of) Europe will be advanced by 1 hour (again). we 'loose' the hour between 2AM and 3AM.
will I loose the same hour of sleep (Sat/Sund-night) after the Catman-Do-III in New York? |
Rudi: In 2001, daylight time begins on April 1 and ends on October 28.

I (and even more Gisela) am pleased - one hour of sleep 'saved' and less problems looking into the mirror when getting up ...
|
Summer starts really early in Europe.
|
We had temperatures above 20°C last week... but you're right, it's early.
|
just like always. it starts 1 week earlier in europe, but ends the same week.
|
Rudi, the hour of sleep you lose at the Catman
Do will not be from summer time, but you will still most likely lose it all the same. I wish I could be there. |

Rudi and dgolds are both correct. In most of Europe it is on March 25th, and in the U.S. it is April 1st.

So does Europe just skip spring and have a really long summer? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for the info Rudi. I knew Europe was always a week apart from the States but I did not realize it is the week prior. It is good information to have.
|
our european self-confidence need this: to be ahead of NorthAmerica at least on this issue ...
|
I was reading this week of a suggestion in California to deal with their energy crisis by seeking Federal Government approval (required by Uniform Time Act of 1966) to implement Double Daylight Savings Time in the Pacific Time Zone states as of May 1.
By adding an additional hour of daylight, the report projected a 1% to 2% energy savings could be achieved. I don't know how serious the suggestion was or if there's any official state government support for the concept. It would certainly cause confusion with airline schedules. |
This should not be in BUZZ

Discussion of the latest frequent flyer buzz...
Lieber Oliver - einige (die meisten) meiner amerikanischen Frequent-Flier Kollegen haben/hatten keine Ahnung, dass wir in Europa schon diesen Sonntag die Sommerzeit einführen. I believe it is usefull informations for frequent fliers, that European airline schedules (and flights to/from Europe) change this coming Sunday already. Isn't this really latest frequent flyer buzz? [This message has been edited by Rudi (edited 03-22-2001).] |
I'm sure glad this information is here. I have an 11:00am flight on 03/25 from LHR to ORD. Without this info I would probably never have known to adjust my watch the night before.
|
Here in Arizona, summer has begun. Temps are ~85F & sunny. I must note (quite happily) that we do NOT observe daylight savings time.
|
Lieber Rudi wieviel schlaf Du und Gisela bekommen interessiert bestimmt nicht im BUZZ!
Dear Rudi how much sleep you and Gisela get is not that interesting and does not belong in BUZZ! I just do not get it when "oldtimers" start diluting the forums! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif ------------------ Viele Grüße Oliver |
Now, now, Oliver - vielleicht habt Ihr beide Recht.
My only problem is when German-speakers use English words with another meaning - like Oldtimer, which sometimes means a classic car! And don't start me off with the German word Handy - which does not mean handy! (For non-German speakers, Handy means mobile or cellular phone). Or is this an Insider-Tip?! |
This is good information for people traveling on those dates. I'm traveling on April 1st from the Eastern zone to the Central zone. Thank you dgolds.

Yes, same thing every year.
U.S. rule: First Sunday in April EU rule (including U.K.): Last Sunday in March This is why London is always 5 hours ahead of New York, except for this one week every year, when it's 6 hours. |
Thanks, Rudi, I completely forgot about it...
And I totally agree... it's a great way to get an extra hour of sleep, and an even better excuse to stay awake an extra hour... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

Zum Besten meiner Kenntnis endet die Sommerzeit noch am letzten Sonntag Septembers in Europa; bestimmt letzten Sonntag Oktobers in USA/Kanada.
To the best of my knowledge, Daylight Saving Time still ends on the last Sunday of SEPTEMBER in Europe; definitely the last Sunday in OCTOBER in USA/Canada. |
Summertime in Europe and for (1) week great connections on UA-Codeshares from ZRH to UA flights in FRA, because they all leave one hour later. After that it's back to 3 hour waits for my favorite SFO and IAD flights.
