Storing carry upfront while sitting in the back
 

We have all seen it, I deplore it. This is an interesting thread.

If you fly on Southwest, often as you board the plane they announce that the bins are full in the back and you should find a bin on your way back. Works for me, I just follow instructions.

On other flights, I do find it rude to take someone elses bin space, but if the flight has finished boarding, what is wrong with finding open bin space somewhere else to make room for my legs and feet? Is it my fault I am 6'3" and DL keeps adding rows instead of removing them?

How about flight crew carryon bags?

On a recent CO flight, a flight attendant's roller bag + carry on were dominating one bin. The roller bag was broken - the handle permanently locked in the extended position, making it impossible for anything else to fit in that compartment. If the handle were retracted and bag spun the long way, 3 bags could have fit in the space of 1. I tried politely discussing this with the FA, but this entire flight crew was in a foul mood (too early in the AM) and I dropped it, realizing there was nothing to gain.

Why can't the airlines make space for flight crew bags underneath, and do a gate check for them (making them available 1st thing upon arrival at the gate)?

Is this too logical?

Why wouldn't this be better for everyone?

My vote is a savage beating for anyone who does not attempt to use the space above their own seat. I realize that you can't put something where there is no space, but to just rudely stuff one's belongings above another's space without trying to use one's own space first should be punishable. I guess most will balk at a savage beating, so I suggest an automatic gate check of any bag so stowed.

While waiting for my sister's delayed Delta flight, after having been cancelled the previous day, I did overhear a bit of good news. A senior F/A was telling a junior F/A that she would have to gate check her bags. Junior F/A said "but I only have a 50 minute connection", and Senior F/A explained the full flight and the quick pick-up for gate checked bags.

I'm sorry but who really cares where this is posted, as long as it is posted at all. I'm noticing that various folk are getting snippy about the places where things are posted. Content is more important than location.

As for the people who leave their possessions in another part of the plane because they cannot be bothered to take them down the back, you deserve to get something stolen. Unless the airline specifically asks you to do that, you take it to your part of the aircraft where you can keep an eye on it. If there is no room, tough, it'll be checked. There is far too much allowed on aircraft in any event. If you've ever experienced really bad turbulence, and seen the bins fly open and the stuff fly out, you'd know that your convenience could kill someone.

FA's , sorry, I'm your biggest supporter, but that applies to you too. You have lots of places that we cannot use, please leave the bins to the payin public.
