From this side of the pond

BEA (remember them?) No 1 in Europe

more recently

British Airways The World Favorite Airline

Air France (of all people) Making the shy the best place on earth

United - Rising

TWA - Up, Up and Away (to the tune of My Beautiful Balloon)

American - The American State at 35,000 feet

Only BA and United have had advertising on TV that I can remember, the rest is press. The latest offering from Iberia is a little boy (in sever need of orthodentic treatment) which has me beat as to what it had to do with Business Class!

Swaggie,

I think it might have been for TWA
"Nationwide--Worldwide--depend on TWA"

Also, briefly in the early 70's

"TWA, your round-the-world airline" I think I can still hear (Ed McMahon?) saying that.

Delta - "On top of the world"
Delta - "You'll love the way we fly." (not sure how many people would agree with assertive statement)
Singapore - "Now more than ever a great way to fly."

I'm sure VS must have some pretty cheeky ones. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

AA had this commerical a few years ago with a business man flying to South America and getting some assistance at the airport -- "Something special in the air".

UA is running commercials on making the world united or something like that.

I saw yesterday Quantas' koala commercial. Pretty funny.

KLM had a commercial with background noise of a plane landing but the image showed these white birds landing. Nice.

Wasn't/isn't? it USAir that had "Impressions of Excellence"?

It's good, because we don't want actual excellence, just the impression of it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

CO: More Airline for your Money
TW: One Mission. Yours
TW: We want to be your airline.
DL: You'll love the way we fly
DL: We love to fly and it shows
US: USAir begins with you

Some of the slogans could also be specialized for the particular ad. For instance, on an AA ad about European service, "Something special to Europe" rather than the normal "something special in the air"

Can't resist a few twists of my own:

USAir begins with your money.

Delta - We love to fly, we just suck at it.

ASA - When you absolutely, positively, want to be stranded in Atlanta overnight.

AirTran - Try us...Hey, how much worse can we be than the other guys?

Delta - We love to fly, we just can't run an airline.

United - The skies may be friendly, but just wait 'til you meet our gate agents.

Oh, how can i forget my friend Liz's little gems:

USAir. Free champagne during freefall.
USAir. Doing what the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania can't.
USAir. Lift optional.
USAir. Because you really want to spend the night in Pittsburgh.
USAir. Fly the snarly skies.

For what it's worth, despite my worst strainings, i haven't managed to do something nasty to the current CO slogan. Maybe it's because they haven't stuck me in Cattle in a while, as that's when i tend to start having nasty thoughts.

VIRGIN - "More experience than our name suggests!"

phllax Feb 28, 2001 6:56 pm

I remember 2 US Air commercials really well. The first one was the "Thank You" commercial in the mid 80's, explaining that, "TOday, US Air served so many meals, loaded so much luggage, etc, escorted so many UM's to the lavatories, and said Thank You so many times, and we'll say it 1 more time, Thank You."

The second one was the US Air begins with you song. I can't remember the beginning of it, but I do remember the last line of the verse and the chorus.

This country's our home town!
Every time we Fly,
Every mile of Sky,
Everything we do,
US Air (US Air echo) begins with you!

I also seem to remember that the last Eastern slogan was something like "We're building a great new airline, one customer at a time."
