Newbie needs advice on which F Flyer program to choose.

Background: I currently use UsAirways Dividend miles but am afraid of USair going bankrupt and loosing my miles. Plus they really dont offer any hotel points.

I have perfect credit, I dont travel much but I do spend about 100k a year through my cards and never hold a balance.

I am looking at BankOne Rewards but it looks like you only get to choose one Reward program.

For the experts here . . . which card offers the most diverse rewards for travel overseas hotel accomodations and and car rentals.

Thanks

Amex SPG seems to be the consensus here - do a search - many threads on this.

Oh boy, lots of views depending on this.

First, you spend $100K a year on the card, what are your purchases mostly on?

I use the Platinum Amex Delta Skymiles, mostly because of their double miles, and promotions they have. Of course, they might be filing for chapter 11 soon :o

Also, what is your home airport?

The Amex Starwood is a favorite in this neck of the woods, because SPG points give you a 25% transfer bonus everytime you do a 20,000 transfer. Plus the fact that is the only Amex card that you can tranfer to AA.

re

My home airport is Charleston, SC

I have been reading up on the Amex Blue Cash which was suggested but . . . This 5% cash back? Does this mean I will get "5k cash" back if I spend 100k? If so is that taxable income? That might not be a good thing. I would rather just have credits of some sort.

"because SPG points give you a 25% transfer bonus everytime you do a 20,000 transfer." --->What does that mean $20,000 transfer or 20,000 transaction? I made a few over 20k transactions last year and I am planning to do more this year.

Thanks

After you transfer 20,000 points to an airline program you get a 5,000 bonus

Thanks I will read up on it.

Looks like a good deal with starwood hotels and 25 different airlines to fly on.

Read the details for Blue... There are a number of restrictions if you're to get the full 5% back - including keeping a balance on the card on which you pay a finance charge. As to the 25% bonus - if you transfer 20000 SPG points to an airline mileage program, you end up with 250000 airline miles.

Ask your accountant, but I think the cash back is considered a rebate of money that you have spent. Thus it is not taxable.
