Credit Cards at Costco?

I know that Costco accepts its own credit card or AmEx. Any other credit card? But when I was about to sign up several years ago, Costco told me I had to sign up for the Costco AmEx card which gave a rebate, but no miles.

Does anyone know, can I get miles at Costco using a regular AmEx credit card? Costco also takes debit cards. Are there any debit cards that give miles? I use mainly United and Northwest.

We have two AMEX cards that earn points/miles - Delta and Starwood. They are both accepted at Costco. I assume any AMEX card is accepted, not just the Costco branded one.

Pulling a play from the Sam's Club playbook...

Why not buy a Costco Cash Card online at costco.com (which allows you to use Visa as well), and then spend the card at Costco? I don't see that they charge any surcharge for this (other than shipping/handling), so it may be a good way to go for those who have miles-earning Visa cards.

I use my Starwood Amex card at Costco regularly. Whoever said you had to use Costco's Amex either didn't know or wanted to sign you up for their Amex card.

I use my Hilton Optima (AMEX) card at Costco all the time. Never a problem.

Costco takes all American Express cards, regardless of the affiliation, i.e. Costo, Starwood, Delta, etc.

Some debit cards offer airline miles as well and can be used at Costco. My friend recently showed me is Bank of America Alaska Airlines debit card. Other banks that offer airline debit cards are Citibank/AA, Chase/CO, and US Bank/NW. I haven't heard of one for UA yet. I'm sure others will hop on the bandwagon soon enough.

Since I know that I will be spending alot at Costco regularly, I wait for a promotion from amex such as the recent triple miles one and prebuy costco gift cards, along with Walmart, AMC, Home Depot, etc to get the 3x miles during the times after the promo. Plus with WalMart you can get gas discounts with the cards, and use them in the Costco gas pumps too.

You can apply for Membeship Rewards program with AMEX card and earn rewards which you can convert into miles.

Costco offers two Amex cards. One offers cash back with a rebate rate that depends on the total amount spent. The other option offers 3% on eating out, 2% on travel and 1% on everything else. You get a voucher for use at Costco (not hard to use!) but you can get cash back for it at Costco as well. I usually pair it with IDine to get miles and a cash rebate.
