Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif
"Bingo!" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif "Here’s the meat: I’m pretty laissez-faire, and I’ve never made any kind of suggestion on Board structure. But I think that it would be best if the number of posts were not shown or even tracked. I can see the point of designating new, journeyman (journeyperson), and veteran members since this may impact how you approach someone in a response. However, IMHO, cutting out post body counts will reduce posting for posting's sake." I'm absolutely in complete agreement with you Jailer! Or at least it would eliminate the ARGUMENT that some FT'ers actually post to simply increase their post count! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Some folks seem to think that even I need to "pad" my count! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif I've argued since the very beginning that this would be an excellent idea since it seemingly serves no useful purpose, IMHO! Yet, some, little doubt including me, will likely continue be "punished" for "OVERparticipation" - or "abuse" as it is sometimes better known! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif I'd perhaps track only "flames" and "complaints" so the those that do this TOO often could be easily recognized! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
But doc,
If we eliminate the "Post Count" feature, how will we know when you have won the race to 1,000,000 posts? I could count on one hand the number of people who believe you when you state that your post count does not matter to you. Please stop insulting our intelligence. If you would like to track complaint posts, this is my first for today. |

Seems that the flame/complain "hosre" NEVER dies! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif But then, that is surely for others, not me, to decide! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Aside from being VERY critical, some FTer's are seemingly rather ungracious and others are perhaps a bit less insightful or intelligent than I may have thought- and some are possibly even both! Yet, it doen't really matter! They have EVERY right to post - as they well should - if so inclined! I'd urge only that they choose their words/language carefully and that they take care to be respectful! In fact, THAT was seemingly the rather simple point that "FQTV" WAS trying to make! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Keep "saving" bandwidth and "clearing" the clutter, CG! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Personally, I'm still "busy" trying to ascertain which takes up more bandwidth, 300 posts by one person or one post each by 300 people? And trying to determine if flames/sarcasm consume less bandwidth than "pleasantries/smilees." And whether public criticisms consume less bandwidth than "news" items or helpful links? Admittedly, I'm baffled! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif Have a great day, EVERYONE! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
doc,
We AGREE on something! Yes you are a baffled and confused person. Very sad that you think people here are coming to your defense. Truth is, they are mocking you. Complaint Count (2) [This message has been edited by CameraGuy (edited 11-25-2000).] |

Complaint Count (2) [This message has been edited by CameraGuy (edited 11-25-2000).]" ------ http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif Have you ever heard of irony? Have you ever heard of satire? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif I never said that anybody would do anything! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Yet "people," just as you, and for that matter just as I, WILL forever see and also will POST whatever they may like! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Unless, that is, "they" will have "you" do it for them! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif BTW- Is there some reason that I should know why you did seemingly not respond to my email from over two weeks ago? I know that YOU are surely NOT trying to "pad" your post count! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Good night ALL! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif In respone to CG below: The last, and second ever email, I'd ever received from you was about 11/7, in which you'd objected to my addition to the CO thread as "non-content" or whatever, and I'd promptly responded to you. Yet I NEVER received any response. While I have recently had some email difficulties, I also had noted via a post that I'd asked you about sharing the contents of our previous email correpondence and I also never received any response either. So I'd naturally, but perhaps admittedly and quite wrongfully, assumed that you did not wish to respond and that you rather preferred a public display- which was in direct contrast to your earlier email wherein you had stressed that you did NOT want to start a flame war!! As always, if you want a response, email me! You have a point of view, to which you are entitled - and so do I - and so do ALL the other members of a vital FT cybercommunity! [This message has been edited by doc (edited 11-25-2000).] |
Doc, it would seem to me that we are both awaiting a response to an e-mail from 2 weeks ago. I sent one to you, but never received a reply. It would appear that your e-mail is lost in cyberspace. Please resend it.
I may be many things, but I am not one to ignore a private e-mail. |
Well, guys, if I might break into your private chat: CameraGuy, I can’t say if you are right or wrong regarding doc’s intentions. It’s pretty hard to know what is in one’s heart, particularly someone who is only an Internet connection. As actions speak louder than words, I would pledge to turn off my post counter if that was a FT feature, and then let others follow or not. Then we would see who walks the walk, and who only talks the talk. In my case it’s a little meaningless as I’m not out to win any land-speed posting records. I don’t think that I would be any less annoying if my posts weren’t counted. But only time would tell. Maybe we could borrow some “Just Say No” buttons from my daughter’s school and pass them out at the next FT event.
It was been brought to my attention that my “Ruth” reference responding to Counsellor was even more obtuse than usual. I simply meant to use a Biblical allegory, rather than pedantic hyperbole to, and I prevaricate not, point out that Counsellor’s erudition is of such crystalline and callipered certitude that I would wish nothing but to be a minion in his cerebral constellation. There, I have spoken plainly. |
I've been a critic of doc's, and I do believe that his post count is not of great importance to him, and thus I've never accused him of padding his post count. However, even if the UBB software did not include people's post counts, that would not take care of the problem that I and others see.

I suppose we should just be grateful that the post counts aren't handled by Florida... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
