ITN seat maps -- there must be an easier way?
Have any of you used the ITN seat map function before? It's very helpful in finding out what kind of seats are available / whether the agent you just spoke with has any clue about the seating, but I wonder if there's a faster way to get this map (without going through all the screens of flight choices, fares, etc.)?
|
sorry to ask but where do you find seat maps on the internet?
|
Gff: go check out http://www.itn.net and
you'll get an overhead cabin map after you choose an itinerary, but before yo actually have to book it. JD |
but be advised that the seat map feature does not work with internet explorer 4.0. use IE3.0, or netscape. it's a known problem that ITN says they are working on.

I use the seat map in United Connection, but not all flights are shown. Also, some flights appear to be very full, but were not full when I have boarded the plane.

United Connection, it appears, uses ITN software. Also, in using Expedia (which doesn't), you cannot get to LH seat maps via UA (i.e. UA codeshare flight, flown by LH, ticketed on UA doesn't have seating available on Expedia).

I just used the seat maps on ITN to check out my flights tomorrow ... pretty cool.
The only weird thing was that I'm on a 757 flight tomorrow, which has 24 seats up front (on Delta), but the Row 1, Seats C&D do not show up on the seat map ... |
beckles:
delta has 45 757s in its fleet which accommodate 180 passengers, six which accommodate 182 passengers and 40 which accommodate 183 passengers. the plane you are flying on is probably one of the 180-seat planes with a closet in the place of seats C&D. |
I used the seating program on BIZTRAVEL to book an airline ticket for my friend HOLLY to go Houston (JAWS-LAND) to ATL around Valentine's day. SUrprisingly the seat map came up and I was able to get her decent seats (She'll still won't be happy they're not close enough to the front exit though but they are close.) It worked and my reservation went through with no problems.
But the seating thing is sporatic. I have problems on the UA connections site getting seats. Also I notice a Lot of seats are already reserved, probably for elite members who can't get into First and others already purchased. CATMAN |
For UA there is a set map in the World Wide Timetable that lists all UA aircraft. Finding out precisely which plane you will be on requires a call to UA reservations though.

Very nice! I just looked up my SJC-ATL-STL-SJC trip for next week and noticed that all my "premium" seats were booked as well as the one next to mine ... a very nice service that AA provides to their FF's.
|
Sometimes these x'ed out seats are just being held for allocation at the airport, so they may actually be empty ... But if the plane looks pretty much sold out from the seat map, you know that you're probably set for a cramped flight!

So... back to the original question,
Is there any quicker way to get interactive seat map information? (other than going through all the menus of itn.net?) |
Just noticed this. UA has a page that shows the detailed seat maps like those shown in the time table books.

I think the bottom line is that like actual
mileage flown, it's still not something we're going to be able to pin down exactly. The net/web have allowed us to refine our searches and interactions with reservations people considerably, but there's still some things they're not going to tell you. Still, it's much better than just casting about in the dark and having to take whatever they give you like most people do. |
