I get the feeling that some people haven't yet tried the ITN seat map function, and are confused as to what it is...

ITN shows you both the seating configuration (which can be had from timetables or websites) *AND* the seats that are now actually filled! I am unaware of any other site that does this, or a quicker way to get to this info. Anyone?

But ITN does not show a realistic lay out of the seats and may not have the best info. on the actual seat occupancy...

I regularly use the ITN seating guide and find it very helpful. With the UA seat plans, Reservations have told me that up to 40% of coach is blocked out for their elite members. This also applies to exit rows in business class on 747s. Often, you will also note 8 seats available in first in the "flight details "page on a 737 but one or two already blocked in the map! This also applies to transatlantic 767s.The latter are apparently for flight crew.
I make my bookings via UA Reservations with the seating map on my computer screen in front of me. You get maximum information this way. If I dont get my preferred seating , I check weekly until I do.
The ITN program is a little slow but I still it very helpful.

I am afraid that I have to disagree with kyklin and agree with jerry grant. Last week, I had a reservation on AA through aa.com. I called the 800 number and got my favorite coach seat booked. The following day, I got the e-mail about the TheTrip.com triple mile deal. I immediately opened 3 sessions of Netscape. I called up my aa reservation in one, called up the ITN seats in another (with my seats shown as booked, and started booking my same trip again at TheTrip.com. When I was reeady to do seat assignments on TheTrip.com (which uses ITN), I cancelled my AA reservation, immediately acccessed the seat assignment section of my TheTrip booking, oted that my fav seats were now free, but restricted as premium. I picked the premium seats (which I am eligible for) and completed my booking. I received confirmation immediately from TheTrip that all had been approved.

I can find the seat maps on www.itn.net, but where can I find information such as A9, F9, etc...

Thanks.

You have to change your profile to "expert mode" and the seating availability will display.
