Pre-takeoff announcements
 

Is there anyplace on the web that has the announcements that are made before a commercial plane takes off?

I'm writing a screenplay, and I need these announcements in their entirety. I travel frequently, but am having sever writer's block thinking of all these right now.

Maybe you all could help me and post what you can remember, and then I can piece it all together.

Actually, more of it is starting to come to me, but it will be nice to know I didn't miss anything.

If one our FAs don't see this, you might try http://www.crewstart.com - it's more of a crew-oriented site and they have a bulletin board as well... I'm like you.. I can remember stretches of it - and of course it's slightly different every time and with every airline, so I'm not sure you would be far afield with what you can remember!

I'm curious - who really listens to it now? Sometimes I find us taking off and I think, "did they make the preflight announcements?" I don't think I even hear them anymore - not very respectful to the FA's I must admit..

All I remember is that now they say "the crew is primarily here for your safetey but will CONSIDER reasonable requests for service". AA.

no kidding? I haven't heard that one! I'll have to listen on US tomorrow to see if they say anything like that! Oh, for the good old days!

Mvic, AA doesn't say that, at least not on any of my 40+ segments so far this year.

My favorite was a flight a few years back on kiwi. I forget the actual name, but the lead F/A introduced the crew as follows:

Hi I'm susan and I'll be working the front of the aircraft along with Sally, working the rear of the aircraft is my husband Bob and Bob's girlfriend Donna" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

for a while, I was such a geek that I could recite the entire American Airlines safety instruction video, but that was before they made it bilingual.

I think most AA flights start with
"Ladies and gentleman, welcome aboard flight #XXX, with non-stop service from XXX to XXX. Your flight crew for this flight is Captain (name), he/she is assisted by first officer (name). From XXX to XXX, our flying time will be x hours and x minutes at an altitude of 3x,000 feet. And now please direct your attention to the monitors in your cabin (newer planes) for a brief but important video about safety on this Boeing 7x7."

And then there is Southwest....where they tell you that 'wing-walking is not permitted on this flight', etc. Anyone remember any of their other zany antics?

Seems if ya don't giggle a couple times while they deliver their schpiel, ya just ain't listinin'.

The captain often annonces that "We're number ## on the runway, so it will be a few minutes before we take off" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, there's also a "Flight attendants prepare for departure" annoncement from the captain right before takeoff.

The first time I heard it I thought it was an anomaly as it was my first flight on AA. I have heard it at least 3 times since, "primarily for your safety but will consider any reasonable request for service" on the Chicago-STL RT. Maybe it is because it is such a short flight?

There'a a pilot on AirTran on a flight I've taken a couple of times out of GSO who sings the preflight announcements to a blues tune and accompanies himself with a harmonica! He also comes out to the boarding area before boarding begins and gives a 'pep talk' about boarding quickly - then stands by the entrance to the plane and herds everyone on! A real scream!!

If you are using a particular airline's pre-flight announcement maybe check that you have permission to use it in your screenplay. It may be copyrighted.

And getting OFF TOPIC: I probably said it before, but one thing that annoys me is PEOPLE BABBLING AWAY, AND LOUDLY, DURING THE PRE-FLIGHT ANNOUNCEMENTS.

I know these announcements in my sleep but I think out of common courtesy for the 1 or 5 people who never been on a plane that people should be QUIET!!!

The one time the yappies don't listen is the one time the plane gets into problems and they are the first panicking on the plane!

And if you're in the first row of coach in a 757, you really have to listen out for:
"Flight Attendants, Doors to automatic"

That's when the FA has to briefly disturb the bulkhead occupants to flip the switch on the door to enable the raft.

Of course, there's also the popular "Looks we're going to be held here a little while because of air traffic in Atlanta. We'll get back with you when we know more"
