if that's the case, then they must be sending messages to delta & northwest also. today's ATL-SEA fare on AA is $204. the cheapest available fare i could find yesterday was over $500.
now if only CO or NW would match these fares, this could be the start of a new fare war (and my ticket to the seatlle bash at the end of september)

Airlines post very cheap fares to their competitor hubs often for very short duration. I got AA's tickets for $150 RT from DCA-DEN and I also got NW's tickets for $200 RT from DCA-DEN for my friend.
It's not that un-common and check out Bestfares Snooze You Lose page specializes such specials.

If they're offering bargains from multiple locations to Denver, AA is probably trying to hit United while they're hurting. Not a bad strategy, perhaps, but I can't imagine AA holding on to much DEN market share once the UA thing blows over. I think they'd have a much better chance of doing some damage if the bargains were on routes where the two go head to head, like BOS-SFO or JFK-ORD.
Meanwhile, I have a client that has to arrange a meeting in either Colorado or Silicon Valley. This may tip the balance! (I'd rather have it in California 'cuz that's more miles for me, but for a $178 fare ...)
