BTW, ranles, it may be safe to assume that at least one non-native-English-speaker will be reading each of your posts, and adjust (simplify) your use of language accordingly.

Of course, this rule does not apply when I am correcting Merry's grammar. Our conversations are not intended to be intelligible :]

Tree, was that a cheap dig? (I hope so I have missed them).

Anyway, I admire you diction, grammer and vocabulary - of course you do have the advantage that you had to learn English, whereas to those of us fortunate enough to be native, it is all to easy to digress.

May your leaves never wither...

2nd person plural - objective case - "y'all"

In Texas y'all is ALWAYS singular. The plural is "all y'all"

I'm sure this has been posted somewhere on FT before, but here's something I discovered one day -- Hold down the [ALT] key with corresponding numbers to produce the following:

128 through 175 produces P _

225 through 253 produces _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ n

Hope this helps! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Forgot to mention -- this will only work if you have a number keypad to the right/left of your standard keyboard. I've been unable to get it to work on my standard keyboarded laptop at home...

Seeing we are WAY off topic here (!) I've been trying to figger out how to do a "copyright" symbol on a pc ... you know the circled "c"

It used to work when I hit ALT/CNTL/c but new Windows and no workee now. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Anyone know? No alt/number key as above does it for me.

Newself: As Im sure you know, a Bablefish is from Douglas Adams book, "THE HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, which is the ultimate frequent flyer manual. On the cover of the Guide are the words, DONT PANIC!, every travelers mantra

Forgot to share those! Sorry ozstamps... Again, don't forget, you need to have a number keypad on your keyboard.

Try the [ALT] key with the following:

0128-0159 produces:

0161-0172 produces:

0174-0255 produces:

In Texas y'all is ALWAYS singular. The plural is "all y'all"
"All y'all" is simply a shorter form of "all of y'all" that can be used to emphasize inclusiveness. Saying that its existence proves that "y'all" is singular is just as erroneous as saying that the existence of "all of us" proves that "us" is singular.

Some people undoubtedly use "y'all" as a singular pronoun, but that's incorrect usage.

ORD12: 128-159 are all "nonstandard" (i.e. won't display, or won't display consistently in all browsers). Don't use them.

Well, I'm not from Leicestershire...
...nor is the Queen.

BTW, I too, am very fond of my grandmother. So kind of you to mention her...
