I have heard that there is a rail link from the airport to the city. However, how close will that train take me to say Westin or Sheraton?

We have always taken a cab, but you might want to check out this site on rail transport in the area:
http://www.staterail.nsw.gov.au/

It is the official!

Train is new for Olympics. No special carriages therefore no real place for baggage. And expensive - more expensive than the various buses that take you from terminal right to door of your hotel for about $US5 each way. And cab is only about $A15-20 (US $ 10-13) as airport quite close to CBD.

Sheraton On Park is superb.

I took the train into the city two weeks ago, it was quick (about 15 min.) comfortable (I only had one roll on} and connected easily to the subway

lov2travel .. the train you were on IS the subway here!! We have no such seperate thing. The line coming thru airport has come from way outta town, and simply got diverted past airport recently, and connects to city, and then to wherever the mostly above ground rail suburban system goes.

A roll on bag is the way to do it, but a couple heavy suitcases and you'd be pushing it. And it (train) stops a fair way from Sheraton and Westin to drag cases when you do not know Sydney.

Visitors arriving at Sydney's Kingsford Smith airport can now reach town quickly by train, taking advantage of newly completed domestic and international terminal rail stations.

The train, part of a new route segment that feeds into the city's extensive CityRail network, takes passengers from the international terminal to Sydney Central, a main downtown transportation hub, in 11 minutes.

The international termainal's rail station is directly beneath the northern end of the terminal. The domestic terminal's station is beneath a nearby parking lot; underground passages connect it to both Qantas and Ansett baggage claim areas.

The Sydney public transport InfoLine, when calling within the city, is 131-500. Websites are www.sydneytransport.net.au or www.airportlink.com.au

Good Luck!

In our neck of the woods if it's not dark, noisy, hot and mildly menacing (and yours is none of the above) then it's not really a subway
