URGENT ADVICE NEEDED!!!!!

I recently returned to Sydney from Miami via LA. My flight from Miami to LA was cancelled due to mechanical problems, in turn, I missed my connecting flight from LA to Syd. Am I entitled to compensation?????? If so, what???

Which airline? All airlines have differing policies, and your status with them of course also comes very much into play.

I'll repost my reply from "Compensation for Cancelled flights" under the Coupon Connection regarding a cancelled MIA-LAX on a MIA-LAX-SYD reservation:

If the flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems, they should have re-routed you onto another airline. Were no flights available on any airline, or no flights on the airline you reserved? They aren't obligated to give you a voucher, but they should cover your hotel and meal expenses.
If you are writing after the fact, though, I don't think they'll go back and do anything, since you were supposedly satisfied with the resolution at the time.

This may vary depending on if you had a single ticket for the whole Miami-LA-Sydney, or if you had LA-Sydney on, say, Qantas, and later bought a one way Miami-LA on American. If you had 2 separate tickets, the airline that cancelled the flight is responsible for getting you to your ticketed destination (LA), but isn't responsible for connections on separate tickets.

Milehighmel and tinkybelle are one and the same? Must have been some flight.

Hope Randy BANS multiple user ID's. Gee there seems to be a lot of it around lately. And in this case as Geo1004 says ... WHY???

It was a United flight and there were no other flights available to connect me with LA to Syd flight. I was offered accom in Miami, I explained that I had been staying in WPB, so they offered me a hire car, which I kicked up a stink about, spoke to a manager, but that was all I got, I have since written a letter in disgust to customer service (CC CEO United) and am waiting for a reply.

Did you or Tinkerbelle write the complaint letter? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Hmmm.. it doesn't sound like the agent tried too hard to find connections on another carrier (Air NZ? Qantas? Via Hawaii??)

Once I helped a couple navigate DTW as they ran for a NW NRT flight, connecting on to TPE. The gate had just been pushed, but the agent gave them the option of staying the night in DTW, or leaving 2 hours later via AMS on KL. They opted for the KLM flight.

Point: I'm a firm believer that there's always some connection (with availability) if you look hard enough. It sounds like your agent didn't look that hard. Sorry you had to spend an extra day in MIA--- although there are lots of _worse_ places to be stuck for a day!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

This is why I carry an OAG with me. There is almost always another connection that can be found if one digs hard enough.

The "advice needed" part I understand.

But URGENT!!!!!? No way.
