Profinity.com still working???

I have been wondering if anyone else noticed that Profinity.com is not online. Did Profinity.com go offline or out of business. It is kinda bizarre.. anyone get any info?

Thanks..

MarkB Dec 28, 1999 3:18 am

Dunno what's happening. The site has been out of commission since the early hours of Xmas Day (that's UK time). Neither the site or Dashboard were working.

Not sure if this is the case for profinity.com, but if you keep hearing about a lot of web sites that went "down" on Dec 23/24, the reason is that Network Solutions ("the dot com people") decided that would be a good day to shut off the domains of all domains that had outstanding bills since October. Yeah, right before one of the biggest holiday weekends, good idea. Just another reason Network Solutions is a bunch of morons. A few prominent domains went down.

(I had somehow forgotten to pay the bill on my personal domain, and I got exactly one notice of it, in October, before it was shut off in the early morning of Dec 24). I paid it on-line on the 24th and it was back running in 24 hours, which I have to say is a model of efficiency, by their standards.

thanks gang.. you guys can make miracles happen (I am going to pretend you made it come back up)... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I really enjoy the miles on the site, good deal.. if I can only get this site to stop error because of the ads....

LOL!

Looks like we can scratch Profinity off our lists of mileage earning opportunities.

When they arrived on the scene in early November, they offered American and Delta miles. American disappeared off their website in late December. As of today, Delta is gone too.

I'm really not too excited about Barnes & Noble or Blockbuster credit....see ya later Profinity!

Did anyone manage to get any AAdvanatge or SkyMiles credited to their accounts thru Profinity? I applied for 500 SkyMiles about a week ago, yet to hear the outcome.

Though I'd racked up a fast 30k pts at the outset, I've so far not been able to get anything. I asked the same question and noted previously in OMNI that I thought they were in trouble and were seemingly using unlicensed components. Does anyone get an error message upon loading?

I've actually stopped using them since the millenium and will likely UNinstall soon unless there's some positive development(s) soon.

I remember that thread now, doc. I get the "This is not freeware" message everytime I launch the desktop, although it never happened until I got over about 3000 profinity points. I've also noticed that if I try to reaunch the desktop after I've closed it down once, it tries to tell me that it's already running.
Very disappointing.

I submitted a request for 1,000 AA miles in early December and still haven't seen them post. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Dearest Dr. Pfp,

Oh, there are free miles to gain on the internet...I'm definetly the guru on this subject!

The absolute best opportunity lasted a year and a half with PlanetAll.com. Through that website I earned 40,000 UA for me (20k 1998, 20k 1999) 40,000 UA for my wife (20k 1998, 20k
1999) 36,000 DL miles (GRAND TOTAL 116,000 FREE MILES!!!) Every single mile posted to their respective accounts. And on top of all that, a free Palm Pilot III during their holiday contest. I have earned miles with other online promotions and websites that total another 28,000 miles. It takes time but adds up!

With multiple phone lines in my home and home office, I have switched between the long distance services so many times that I need to keep track of it with a spreadsheet! Over the past eleven years, I have earned over 319,000 various airline miles and 7,500 Hilton points thanks to their insane promotions.

This post is to those out there who find it necessary to flame the other members of this board who are just trying to give useful information or hints regarding our passion of Frequent Flying. Please resist having to flame someone! You will find while reading the posts on this board that everyone seems to have a "niche".

Mileageaddict wants to share his findings on ways of gathering extra miles. PremEx is great with UA info. Rudi and Stimpy are great sources for international travel. Sheryl has been great with CO ticket bookings and Priceline deals. RichG offers great humor! Catman is trying to police the board as best as he can. Punki often offers advice from the woman travelers point of view, while Doc reposts a lot of information from the the various publications and for me, I find it useful as I don't have the time to source the info.

I am just asking that those of you who find the need to have to flame others, please either ignore the person that is upsetting you or just leave the board to the people who want to be civil and enjoy the others!

Catman Jan 15, 2000 2:17 pm

If I am guilty of flaming anyone, I want to apologize for that.

Will try to reign in CMDR CATCOP.

Mileage Addict: If I didn't before, thank you for your site and all the useful information. YOu've helped me several thousand miles, I think you've helped all of us!! I hope no one is razzing you for how you earn your miles (I know you fly a lot!) so I say leave M-A alone!!!

And newself, wish I could send you a beer through cyberspace for that post! After writing such an intelligent post you deserve several yards of beer. You're exausted.

Now go off and nap and earn some double snoring points. I think I will too.

MarkB Jan 15, 2000 2:27 pm

Well said, newself (and you Catman!)

PG Jan 15, 2000 2:28 pm

Catman - where is the flame?

Good posts from MileageAddict and newself.

Pfp - personal attacks do not belong here.

Catman: Don't think I've *ever* seen you flame anyone. At least not in the 12 months since I've been here.

wannago Jan 16, 2000 11:16 am

I'm not a frequent flyer so have to get my miles some other way, and in fact have only been collecting them since June 1999. The Airline Mileage Workshop (which I stumbled onto some way I don't remember now) was what made me aware of the opportunities and I am forever grateful - THANK YOU MileageAddict. Also, lots of my miles have come from posts on this board - THANK YOU everyone. Hoping some day to be the first to discover an opportunity and return all the favors.

Well, in keeping with the spirit of thankfulness that this thread has taken:

I've said it before, but not often enough, THANK YOU everyone who post here regularly and share your wealth of knowledge and creativity so that we may all increase our flight and "pudding" miles, as well as get better deals, upgraded seats and rooms, and improved travel services in general.

This site is great!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Catman Jan 16, 2000 3:30 pm

If I didn't say it before I took down my profinity.com becuase it kept crashing my computer. It was a noble attempt but I can't restart my computer every five minutes.

On other topics: Helping each other. That is the purpose of this board, for people like Honu and wannago to get information and become better at getting frequent flyer miles.

MarkB: my namesake sort of, thank you for the nice message. I try not to flame anybody.

MarkB Jan 20, 2000 3:47 pm

Just to let you all know I received the following e-mail from Profinity today :

Dear Member,

We are sorry to say that we are unable to fulfill your request for frequent flyer miles. Our ability to offer frequent flyer miles has been eroded because of exclusionary agreements American Airlines & Delta Airlines have established with a competitor of Profinity.com. We are currently trying to partner with other airlines so that we can provide miles as Profinity Rewards.

To help compensate for this problem, we have credited an additional 2000 points to your account and have removed your request for miles so that you can collect another reward from the existing catalog (all remaining rewards ARE available).

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and we look forward to offering you more great rewards in the future.

If you have any questions regarding this issue, please contact us as [email protected].

Sincerely,
Profinity Reward Services

I'm pretty peed at this. I want SkyMiles!!!

MarkB,

I got the same email. They did promptly put the points back into my account. Hmmm....do I cash them out for a Barnes and Noble certificate or hold on to them for a while in case they develop a relationship with an airline?

I got to about 1200 miles on Profinity, and realized that something just didn't feel right.
Their software continually crashed my system and always gave me the "this is not freeware" bs.
I'm glad I didn't get my hopes up too high, and feel bad for you guys that got screwed.
These guys will all eventually learn that the word goes out when you lie about your product and it's capabilities.
Cheers.

MarkB Jan 21, 2000 11:30 am

Assuming Profinity's story is correct, then surely Delta and American should not have allowed Profinity to offer their miles if there was a possibility they would withdraw the opportunity. Or at least they should have permitted existing applicants to be credited with their miles.

I think I can feel an e-mail to Leo Mullin coming on.

Anything new here with anyone?

I'd emailed them over not receiving any requested miles, 2x- no response!

I just ran the profinity program yesterday and to my surprise my once nearly 80,000 pts was somehow down to just over 40000pts!!!

I've emailed them again to try and get some idea of whats going on!

Has anyone ever received anything from them?

CG Apr 5, 2000 3:52 pm

I checked profinity.com today and there was no place to log in and no points indicator. It now looks a little like Yahoo without the search capablility. Strange...

I gave up on them when their airline partner rewards were deleted from their website. Cashed in my points for Amazon gift certificate which I received a few weeks later.

Deleted the bookmark after that, never bothered to go back.

Smart move David! I've still heard nothing back from them! A total loss? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Thought I'd bring this thread forward in view of the current Greenpoints debacle involving immediate doubling of required SH/Greenpoints for FF awards! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I've never even gotten the "standard" email noted above- nothing, nada! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I've logged about 82,000 points and it seems that now, after all this time, I can't even get a little cert for Blockbuster for my son or for Barnes and Noble for my wife! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Has anyone been able to cash out with anything from profinity recently? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

doc Jul 11, 2000 6:24 am

Anyone? Anything? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Seems the trick with these programs is to cash out quickly, literally ASAP, before the .... walls come caving in! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Mielage adict,
I too have multiple lines in my home, can you have 1 line on Sprint for miles and another on MCI for miles? If so that would be great!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

MileageAddict Jul 11, 2000 10:01 am

One line on Sprint, the other on MCI? Absolutely? Of course, you want to switch the lines back and forth between these two companies everytime your bonus miles post!

It's not always possible to switch back to the original long distance company with the same frequent flyer account but consider using your secondary airline or another family member's account...
