Or, of course, there DL's so-called "alliance". A steward on a recent AF flight stated that the "alliance" would be launched in early March with AF / AM / DL and you don't want to hear this: KE as the founding members. I'm not sure how many of you would be willing to grace the skies with KE for an intro. bonus - even if it's just for a domestic Korean hop or a brief NE Asian run!!

Actually, in fairness, KE got extremely good reviews in last year's Business Traveller (Asia Pacific) reader surveys.
Apparently they are going to great lenghts.
Of course, the problem is that no amount of Royal service is going to make up for the fact that your plane and the runway are in two different places upon landing.

I went too far - KE has a bad rep in the safety dept (the most important), but its service is very good I've heard.
By the way, am I correct in saying that neither Star nor oneworld offered one million miles in their promotions or even 400,000 miles. LP will give a million LP miles or 400,000 other miles once converted through Hilton.

Not true, leroy11 -- Oneworld offered a 100,000 point bonus in each of the member frequent flyer programs. So depending on how many flights you were willing to take, you could have gotten several of those bonuses.
I don't remember the details of the Star promotion but I believe they awarded business class tickets to anywhere in the world as their bonus.
Each time around, the bonuses have gotten better. So I will be very disappointed if Wings doesn't give us a good one!

Spoke to AF reservations the other day and they said that DL and AF would be announcing their so-called "alliance" THIS month - apparently, in the next ten days - with AM and KE being the other founding members.
How about a nice 100,000 mile bonus to start things out?? Then if I'm feeling suicidal, I could fly KE back from my South America mileage run - GRU --> LAX.
Then, Wings ...

the last 'ride NNN StarAlliance members - get NNNN miles' (maximum of 100'000 miles) was run by LH miles&more-program from jan-1-1999 to feb-28-2000. UA did run the same promotion in automn 98.

Thanks for the information, Rudi. With all these new members, I think *A is going to have to offer more than 100,000 bonus miles if you manage to fly all carriers. I means they'll be 6 new carriers since last time!!

2 yrs ago dl did one of those fly our partners promotions, and then they had 13 partners!!! i flew 7 of them and got 115K. all 13 would have yielded 250K.
so they have a history.
*a offered the same promotion for 2 yrs in 4Q97 & 4Q98, but balked last year. they should definitely do it again with all their new partners coming aboard!!!

I remember that DL promotion. It was great because it applied to all of their (then) many ff partners. I got the 100K.
Another (somewhat) great promotion they had a couple of years ago which I haven't heard about since was 40K bonus for all elites / 25k for generals who flew 4 international segments on DL. My Boston --> Montreal trips counted - so, I came out 120K better with no work. I already had 6 round-trips scheduled for the period. A friend of mine at DL said that the promotion was sooverwhemingly popular that they lost stacks of money on it and that it would never be run again.
Oh, the good old days at DL!!
