Daily getaways 2021
It’s coming October 7
Daily Getaways (ustravel.org) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...dcc903bd9.jpeg |
I guess I should expect to see some of the same travel suppliers this time around as last time. Just curious if they will be more miserly and/or fewer offerings this time than last time.
Hopefully I can get some value out of the hotel programs’ offers again. |

Here were the 2019 participating brands:
Alamo Rent-a-Car Avis Car Rental Best Western International Caesars Entertainment Choice Hotels International Expedia Accor Hotels Hertz Rent-a-Car Hilton Hotels and Resorts Hyatt Hotels and Resorts InterContinental Hotel Group Las Vegas Sands Corporation Loews Hotels and Resorts Marriott International MGM Resorts International Omni Resorts and Hotels SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment Universal Parks and Resorts Wyndham Hotels & Resorts I assume most of those were lined up for the cancelled 2020 promotion. Since the offer previews don’t seem set to show up until October 4th, and as the sales go live on October 7th, it seems to me that they are scrambling for participating companies and/or to get staff to work on having everything ready to go for this 2021 promotion. Probably hit with extraordinary marketing and tech resource constraints due to changes that hit during and from the pandemic — not only from the promotion runners but also their promotion partners. Note that the previous preview offers date was showing as September 27th. |
They still have the offer preview date set for October 4th; and the actual sales starting date is still showing as set for October 7th.

I recall some of the IC and OMNI offers in the past weren't too bad. They were nice because it didn't matter if you were already a high elite in their programs or not - they were just really good deals on weekend stays at various hotels. I don't really have a use for OMNI points but I know in some places they have really good hotels.
Hilton points are worth so much less than they once were, those offers are going to have to be adjusted quite a bit. Frankly, I probably wouldn't buy Hilton unless it's Free Night certificates with easily-understood terms and conditions. (Exclusions such as a fixed list of properties or fixed dates that I can place a value on.) I'm pivoting to Hyatt in 2022 so for the first time I'll be interested in what they have to offer. The Vegas and Orlando deals always seemed pretty overpriced to me, but it's possible I was missing something there. The only time I go to either of those is for conferences where I just accept the conference hotel and rate - I don't really shop those markets for great deals. |

In less than 99 minutes, the preview offers are scheduled to show up on the site. Hopefully there are no delays this time.
|
The previews are up through the 15th. No offers showing for days after that. Nothing particularly spectacular as far as I can tell, but obviously everyone values these things differently.
250k HH for $1,250... Just for fun (since I'm planning a London trip), I looked up a DoubleTree in London that charges 50k/night. So that 250k gets me 6 nights if I'm elite. Or I can pay $1,896 for those same 6 nights. |
Not many Hyatt packages for sale. I’ll try my luck, but I doubt I’ll have much success there.
Glad to see Choice in at about the same level as prior years. |
Pretty weak choices this time. I was thinking they would want travel.
|
The Hyatt points deals have a positive expected value for most normal uses. Not enough for me to lose sleep if I don't get one, but they're decent deals.
None of the other points deals are that attractive. 0.5c for HH points? Uhhh, nope. The OMNI and Accor deals look better than anything else. |
So, there are 16 total Hyatt packages? What the heck?

The key is the planned stay. HH points have been in a straight line of devaluation for at least a decade. (Maybe longer - there have been multiple big structural changes to the program over the years, none good for the members.) Vastly worse than the gradual category creep of more stable programs like Hyatt, SPG, and Marriott.
It's getting harder and harder to find 0.5 cpp options with Hilton. If you do find one, lock it in when the points hit your account. |

Maybe Hyatt will have a second offer round this time? With 16 packages, I assume my chance of landing one the traditional way is as follows: basically zero. I will try to max out on Choice. |
Interesting that 2 of the 4 Accor Daily Getaways are for Ovation reward certificates for rooms that are stated not to be available for redemption on the Ovation Reward site. The Daily Getaway for the Fairmont El San Juan is for an Ovation Certificate said to be redeemable for a 1 BR suite and the one for the Fairmont Century Plaza is for a Gold Room. On the Ovation Reward site the Fairmont El San Juan Ovation Certificates are stated not to be redeemable for suites and the Century Plaza Ovation Certificates are not redeemable for Gold Rooms..

Just like in real life. Hyatt solid, Hilton....no way.
|
Hyatt offer doesn't feel as lucrative as previous years. 50000 points would get me two nights at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, but I could book two nights now quite a bit cheaper than the $660 that the points would cost.
|
There is no end to finding examples like your Tokyo story. Whatever Hyatt is selling points for today with their big bonus, Daily Getaways is quite a bit less. No so for Hilton.
|
Doesn't really matter how much of a bonus they are selling points for if the end result is a stay that is still more expensive than booking a paid rate.

All depends on your needs. I am looking at nights in Paris where the choice is between almost 800 euros or 30,000 points. You can still get outsized value using Hyatt points but again buying points speculatively without a planned stay is risky.
One area where the purchase might make sense for me is using points for upgrading a paid stay to a suite, but availability for that is very spotty. |
In the current system, I can get around 2 cents per point on pretty basic Hyatt redemptions.
Don't follow the Hyatt forum close enough to know exactly how bad the coming devaluation is expected to be. With the entire hotel industry mostly eliminating soft product and even basic things like food at the hotels, I'm moving more and more leisure stays to Airbnb / VRBO / Booking.com. I'm hesitant to go out and voluntarily acquire new hotel points. I have a million HH and 500k Marriott to burn down before they become worthless. I'm going to flip 2022 business stays to Hyatt but probably won't aggressively pursue points beyond the stays and using the credit card for stays. |

For most other point sales, I think you can usually find them on sale anyhow for the same price. So why bother staking out a spot at your computer at exactly 1pm.... I do not understand all the hype around daily getaways. If you want points buy them when they are on sale. For the Hyatt ones, you not likely to get them. As well, they will be worth even less later this month, so you would do better to buy at the current slightly higher price today, then to purchase the cheaper ones that will be worth less tomorrow when the Hyatt peak pricing goes into effect in a couple of weeks. |
The 3 nights in a suite at the Venetian for 650$ is interesting...
|
I am just glad the Marriott gift cards are back, but very limited amounts
|
Hilton points still available for sale. No surprise there.
|
the hyatt sale was so damn stupid. site crashed
|
Overall a very poor list of offers
|
I was able to snag 80k Hyatt somehow. Website kept crashing but I refreshed one of the tabs and it asked me for my Hyatt #. Been trying to get in for years, it's a great deal :tu:
|
IHG is selling 2500 miles for $12...
|
How long do points from these packages take to post?

Going back to the 2019 thread(s) about Daily Getaways offerings can be taken as a guide for how long it took previously. |
These transactions made using Chase cards come across as this:
Description US TRAVEL ASSOC Also known as US TRAVEL ASSOC Merchant type Civic, social and fraternal associations Method Online, mail or phone ....... Category Gifts & donations |
I just bought some Hilton points. How long does it take for it to show up? The redemption details shows 3-4 weeks. Does it truly take that long?
