MyPoints from MyWay

I am sorry if this has been discussed before. MyWay has additional weekly MyPoints. Links for the 10 points can be found in the posting made by jellis at the URL: http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/009488.html

The page also contains a discussion of MyPoints and Freeride.

l etoile Feb 6, 2000 11:13 am

Thanks. They all say "Temporarily Unavailable" right now, but perhaps later ...

PG Feb 6, 2000 11:22 am

Something happened to the Mypoint site (which is not at all unusual in my experience). I was going through the MyWay links and received confirmation of the 10 points, when I started getting the error messages.

MileageAddict Feb 6, 2000 6:36 pm

I just went through all of the topics and collected points without any problems.

Thanks for the great links PG.

leroy11 Feb 6, 2000 9:32 pm

I just joined My Points today. That web-site is so slow!! Anyway, how do I go about following these links?? Do I just go to Jellis' links and access the sites that way or do I have to do it through either My Points or My Way.

Cheers.

Leo.

PG Feb 7, 2000 1:38 pm

I am not sure Leo. Probably the better way is to go through MyWay, since MyPoints does not want people publishing the links.

MilesNut Feb 7, 2000 3:54 pm

I went directly through Jellis' links last night & the points were in my account this morning.

MileKing Feb 7, 2000 4:26 pm

leroy11, save your time and effort and go with MilesMall or Clickrewards for on-line purchases. Aside from the slow site, you'll be lucky to get anything out of MyPoints. After 4 months and endless e-mails they finally credited me 100 points I was due. Now they only owe me 500. Those are 4 months overdue also. Remember, never miss an opportunity to slam MyPoints!

MileageAddict Feb 8, 2000 8:53 am

I think this MyWay opportunity might be over. I went back this morning and noticed none of the MyPoints buttons there anymore. Whether this is temporary or permanent , I do not know.

You know I have been happy with the thousands of Hilton HHOnors points I have gotten from MyPoints. I've decided that the time and effort involved (not so much as you might think) are worth these free hotel points. I would not purchase specifically to get MyPoints though, earning most of mine through the TalkCity polls and bonus mailings. I also have not seen particularly slow site loadings.

MileKing: I know your thing is bashing MyPoints, but let's put this into perspective. I spend no more time trying to get what is owed me in the way of missing points with MyPoints than I do with airline and hotel programs!! And at least I can handle it by e-mail. I spent quite a while yesterday writing to United about missing miles--I had to write a letter, print it, dig out receipts, xerox documents, address, stamp and mail an envelope and now wait.

craz Feb 8, 2000 11:23 am

As for MYPT I sent them a couple of e-mails and let them know that they needed me since I could get to all the sites they have ads for by using that sites URL and that way MYPT won't get any $$$$ and i'll still get to check out the sites. Got in the other day from overseas called them and they called back and credited me with the 4,000 pts due me!!!Maybe cause i kept a record of what date i was where and any member or order #'s. Need a few thosand to get to 20,000 then i'll decide if i'll stay or not.

MileKing Feb 8, 2000 1:16 pm

Yes, TravelWeary I do bash MyPoints! I consider their customer service appalling. It's true that I experience problems with getting points/miles credited in almost every program I belong to. However, in almost all cases an e-mail or phone call resolves the issue. In some situations it may take a second round of calls/e-mails. MyPoints is the only program where I am consistently faced with numerous follow-ups to get the points owed me. I have e-mailed them at least 5 times (each) on two separate issues dating back to October. I have also placed two calls on each of those issues. One item was finally resolved last week after they asked me (again, for the third time) the same information I had already submitted. I have submitted another e-mail on the other issue, an issue I was told over the phone would be resolved some time ago.

In sum, I'm not going to support an organization which is making money off of my "clicking" when I have to go thru so many hoops to get what is owed me. I feel I am doing a service to others on these boards who may be unfamiliar with MyPoints and are considering signing up....at least they will have been forewarned as to what they are in for.

TravelWeary Feb 8, 2000 2:27 pm

MileKing: If I had done a lot of purchasing or given out my personal information at lots of sites, or had to put up with lots of junk mail--all for nothing--I might feel differently and I do feel your frustration. I would not suggest purchasing through MyPoints unless you're very patient because this is where the problem with crediting seems to come in.

But I still think there CAN be some value here with two simple activities. Doing nothing but TalkCity Polls (once a week) and linking through BonusMail e-mails (neither of which requires a trip to the MyPoints site), I can acrue 1,000 points in less than five weeks. For this I can get 1,000 Hilton HHonors points--a minimum of 10 times a year. When I do a cost/benefit analysis, this is worth it to me. The time spent clicking on BonusMail (with hot links in MS Outlook) is negligible and the polls take about 10-15 minutes of my time once a week.

I have never had problems getting credit for either BonusMail or TalkCity polls, and my HHonors point requests (10,000 points so far) have all been posted promptly to my Hilton account.

I hope we can agree to disagree on this http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

MK- To quote our fearless leader, "I share your pain," but TW makes a good point! Just minimize involvement, take it easy, be patient, and accrue points- eventually! That's pretty much what I'm trying to do also.

BTW- I'm still waiting for the 1000 points for my more.com puchase!

PG Feb 8, 2000 4:03 pm

My own experiences are closer to those of MileKing. I am waiting to get to the next threshold for mypoints, and then I am cashing out and closing my account. I do find the site slow at times, at other times I do a survey only to get some error message, and then some things are not credited - so the return on my time is not that good.

TravelLover Feb 8, 2000 5:19 pm

I thought that after I reached 20,000 points I'd give up and not worry about MyPoints but here I am, within a couple of thousand points of my second 20K. It's important to keep MyPoints in perspective...in many ways its like found money and it's just not worth it to get too upset about missing a few points here or there. (Doc, your 1000 points is another matter. That's worth pursuing. Have you called them? They're much more responsive to voice calls than emails.) The hardest thing for me is that MyPoints has been posting missing points in back months so it's hard for me to keep track of what I've received and what I'm still missing. Nevertheless I traded in my first 20k for ten Marriott stays at $50 off so any way I look at it I'm already ahead by $500.

Now pointclick has me annoyed but that's another matter.

MilesNut Feb 8, 2000 5:55 pm

I agree with both sides on this one. Collecting points from MyPoints is a royal pain in the butt. However, so far in approximately 6 months I've cashed in on 25K AA miles & I'm just a little past half way to another 25K. I've decided to give up on MyPoints several times but the miles keeps me coming back.

tummyg Feb 8, 2000 8:46 pm

I agree with everyone, that is just my way...
Mypoints is a pain for getting credit for purchases, so unless it is a great deal like the more.com 1000 points, i won't use mypoints, other programs work more efficiently so I use them. But, you can't beat the easy talkcity polls, the 50 pts for visiting websites weekly and these myway points.

on topic: The myway points are weekly, and they do disappear around tuesday each week, and reappear on the weekend. I think sunday or monday morning is the best time to catch them. This is based on only 2 weeks experience so it might change, the first week I only caught 3 of them before they ran out. This week I got them all. Hopefully we can all start catching them, unfortunately these aren't always available like talkcity (yeah i know, lots of poll errors there). At least these you dont have to vote in the poll to get the points.

Mileking, when you write them for the 2, 3,4 and 5th times, do you keep forwarding the prior emails and autoresponses, this way they are tracked together and the person reading them gets a better picture that you have waited too long. I had a couple problems but when i gave them 1 email with all the info and complained that the delay was 8%!!$#:+, I got the points. I think everyone has said, once i get 20K i will quit, but then it happens, and you keep going (okay maybe this is because 3 days after you hit 20K you get 3,500 points that you had been missing for 3 months, but with the lesson learned to just go for the quick and easy free points.

MileKing Feb 8, 2000 8:59 pm

Yes, tummyg, I send them copies of all the old e-mails! You may be right about treating them like the fools they are...in my most recent message I told them I was sick of the nonsense I had to go thru to get the points...the 100 points appeared. Now if I could just get the other 500 I would be thrilled!

keithnj973 Feb 8, 2000 10:22 pm

I have never dealt with a company like MyPoints. I don't do business with companies like them. I imagine what they are doing to the people that *don't* follow up like we do -- ripping them off blindly and collecting the "click-through" payment from the web sites. It's unethical.

honu Feb 9, 2000 12:11 am

Well, I have to agree with everybody here. Mile King, I know exactly what you're talking about: I've been waiting and calling, calling and waiting, and they still owe me points...
So, I'll follow Travel Weary and Nanook's strategy: only Talkcity and weekly visits, no purchases or registrations anymore.

I usually exchange 5,000 mypoints for 5,000 AA miles. I'd like to hold on to them until I can exchange 20,000 mypoints for 25,000 AA miles, but every so often I start thinking that they'll probably go out of business soon (with such customer service practices), so I'd better cash in while I can.

Carl Feb 9, 2000 3:27 am

MyPoints is the type of company that would've been featured in numerous exposés on TV if they were a traditional institution like a bank. Despite offering "how are we doing?" survey links for several months, their customer service has continued to go steadily downhill. It seems that email responses are not only canned, but the whole process now seems to automated. It feels like all incoming mail is filtered and responses are generated based on keywords, rather than at least being glanced at by a human.

It has become common recently for EVERY answer to be "your account has been credited" even though there is no truth to the statement. When you reply to these posts, you get no response and you eventually have to restart the entire process over again.

I just went over to MyWay.com and the points are back for the clicking. It seems as thought the earlier post was right and that they are taken down at the beginning of the week and put back up in the middle.

leroy11 Feb 9, 2000 5:23 pm

Could someone please explain to a new MyPoints member how to get these points. Where do I go once I get to the MyWay site?? Do I log in using my MyPoints login passwords or what??

Thanks.

MilesNut Feb 9, 2000 6:40 pm

Leroy11.....scroll down the page to the MyPoints link & click on it. It's on the right. I don't think the links are always there. Read what Tummyg wrote in this string.

Carl Feb 11, 2000 12:15 am

Out of all the MyWay links in that post, I could only find two that contained MyPoints links (maps and horoscopes). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

tummyg Feb 11, 2000 12:46 am

Carl,
Myway seems to remove the points and then put them back as i noted before. I think it is on weekends when they reappear and are virtually gone by midweek. That is why I didn't post them when I first found them, because they disappeared before i got all of them, and it is frustrating looking everywhere and coming up blank. When these reappear whoever finds them post and hopefully we will verify a "Myway" pattern.

Lurker Feb 12, 2000 9:42 am

They're back! Weren't there last night, were there this morning.

Lurker

TravelWeary Feb 12, 2000 12:43 pm

Actually, the links were there last night, 2/11/00. I logged on about 10 p.m., Pacific time, and went through all of them. I had checked earlier, about 8 p.m. and they were not there, so midnight in the East may be the key.

shinbal Feb 13, 2000 8:21 am

Can someone explain to me.....simply.....how to get MYPOINTS for the Talk City surveys? I log on to TALKCITY and just get invited to register for MYPOINTS. From the MYPOINTS site, I can't seem to get in and do this. Any help would be appreciated.

EMAIL: [email protected].

THANKS

Steve

I just picked up about 125 mypoints at myway.com. I did notice that on screen the mypoints arrow showed 25 points but the blue screen only gave me 10 points.

I also added my zip code to check out what is happening in my city and it gave me 15 points.

TravelWeary Feb 14, 2000 12:45 pm

Shinbal: Follow this link http://www.talkcity.com/communities/ages.htmpl and in the box that says What Interests you? choose a "neighborhood." When you do scroll down until you see a Neighborhood Poll. Make a selection and click on Vote Now! You will get a screen showing a bar graph of results. In the upper right corner of this screen will be a link that says Get the 10 Points; Click here! Click on that and you will be rewarded the points. You will be taken back automatically to the first screen where you need to choose another neighborhood which will load a new poll, vote, click, etc. There are 20 polls in all. Often 1 or 2 will have problems, but you can try again later. I hope this helps.
Make sure your MyPoints key is active before doing this which you do at the MyPoints site.

Carl Feb 16, 2000 6:02 pm
