After reading about the launch of their new program coming this spring I wonder if American will pull out of Mypoints. It seems like this new AOL/AA enterprise will be a direct competitor to Mypoints.

AA doesn't directly participate with MyPoints, it's with VacationMiles; with whom you redemm MyPoints with.

The direct competition would be with Clickrewards, who have redemption with several hotels and airlines (including AA). My feeling is that Clickrewards is more flexible since they have a large number of partners. Isn't the parent company of Clickrewards also involved in this AAOL deal?

Randy Petersen Feb 1, 2000 2:31 pm

Yes, AOL has actually invested in Netcentives, the parent of ClickRewards, owning just under 5% of their shares and of course American and Netcentives already have a deal going with ClickRewards. While not the death of MyPoints, it certainly puts ClickRewards in the driving seat and at least two brokerages recently put a Strong Buy on their stock.

With MyPoints track record there *is no* competition.

Maybe the beginning of the end for MyPoints!!! Hip, hip, hooray! I say again.....hip, hip, hooray!
