The"Phone Call" after "The Letter"!

Well I got the letter a few weeks ago and for the heck of it I submitted a few more requests, low and behold more packages arrived at my doorstep!
Well tonight I received a phone call from Chase telling my my business was not wanted be them abnd to cease and desist from making more requests. I asked for his name and phone number. None was given!
Well another request is going in now and let's see what happens!!!!!

NOW????!!!!????

This may well prove to be a very unpopular view, Bob, but why right now?

Why not try to take it a little slower perhaps? Is there such a thing as being a little too greedy! At $1000/2xmonth, that's free ticket in less than 1yr assuming no bonuses- for absolutely nothing! Again, may I politely suggest that you just slow down a tiny bit, rather than bang you head into a brick wall! This would likely benefit everyone- you, Chase and other FT'ers involved.

Just my 0.02!

I must be misunderstanding something - why would they call to tell you to stop placing orders, but yet they kept filling the orders you submitted?

BobCharlap Jan 13, 2000 7:33 pm

Doc I agree with you! I will lay out for a couple of weeks and see what happens then!

It still makes no sense why the go to the trouble of writing and calling and not following up on their threats!

They even ask for your email address to contact you withif there was a problem with your order yet I have neve r received any email from them?????

Incredible! They weren't filling my orders even BEFORE I got the letter. I tried ordering 4 times and only got 1 order. I've been meaning to call what's her name but haven't had time. Maybe I'll try another order.

I find it incredible that a major bank, of all things, would expect anyone to act on the basis of an anonymous phone call. Anybody could have made that call. If Chase wants you to do or not do anything, they should be prepared to tell you in writing, and with attribution. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Also, an FT welcome to my friend BobCharlap, who inexplicably decided to use his real name, rather than call himself YellerLine or QuebecCowboy or something. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

After speaking with Beata, I wasn't sure if I was re-instated. I waited a few weeks, and put order in and it was filled. After a few weeks I will put in an order for my husband. I am hoping that the 4 of us in our family were all reinstated. I tried to get into the web-site and it said iit was being reconstructed. Can someone list the web-site again, all my bookmarks were erased when we installed OS 9 on our mac.
Thanks

The way I get there is to go to http://www.chase.com and select Search, then type in "Currency to Go." The first link takes you to the Currency to Go page.

BobCharlap.....The man's name is Bob Sharot (not sure if that's how he spells it) He says "this product was designed as a supplement to foreign currency. It wasn't designed just as an order for travelers checks" He can be reached at 212-552-3461.

Gordon.....The site is https://ww02.chase.com/ctg/ Good luck

Beata Jan 15, 2000 8:54 pm

I would have jumped in here sooner but....thanks to you guys.....I was at one of those "get to know your f#^%*ng customer" seminars. I think I fooled them. Anyway, I'm here for you if you need anything..........

tummyg Jan 16, 2000 4:42 am

oh my god! You guys had me rolling laughing, but now, Beata has made me fall out of my chair! My god, one of those seminars! She must have been so close to mass murder listening to how she was supposed to "listen to the customer"!!!

good luck to you all.

A suggestion:

Try ordering some currency with the checks. Maybe if they make some money in the order, they will take it.

Geez, Chase must really hate me. I hope they never find out my true identity....

Excuse my ignorance please, but I must have come late to this thread. Am I correct to understand that you can purchase foreign currency from Chase with your credit card and get miles.
Or, am I off on a different tangent. Please explain.
Sorry I have been away....

OK, I think I get the idea with charging TCs or foreign currency with your affinity Visa or MC. My only question is: is the exchange rate you get competitive? I've noticed that even when I charge stuff on my cards in foreign countries, the rate I get when I see my statements is not always "competitive".

If you charge $25000 per year in checks (not a ridicously amount if one travels a lot), then and got a rate that was 1% inferior, then that would be about $250...2% would be $500 (roughly the value of a free ticket if you were to buy the miles at 2 cents per mile). In my experience, a 2% haircut on the interbank exchange rate by your CC company is not that uncommon.

I will look into this after the holidays. I think the best way to do this is to stick with "strong" currencies like the British pound, the Japanese yen, or the euro. Or you could get checks in currencies that are pegged to the US dollar, like the HK dollar.

fallinasleep Jan 16, 2000 9:44 pm

Oops, I guess you folks are talking about charging US dollar TCs with your CCs. That makes more sense...because if you did the foreign exchange, you are not getting the best rates. I just took a quick look at the Chase conversion rates versus the currency conversion table on Yahoo, and the spread is about 0.7% for the yen and 2.1% for the pounds. On the other hand, it is pretty difficult for an individual to get the best-possible exchange rate (especially in countries like Britian, where the exchange bureaus all charge a commission).
