If you would've joined before July 1st 1989 and earned a mile, it would've still be valid.

No, the "Old Miles" were converted by AA to "New Miles" several years ago at a premium conversion rate.

Joined Flying Blue in March '13 and got close to Gold for a while. Had to give it up since I moved out of their homebase, AMS.

Priority Club - 1998, still like IHG Rewards, but back then, PC was great!

Alaska - March 1986.
United and AirCal - probably within a few months of Alaska (one way or the other).

Hotels probably started early 90s.

You're a pretty new person to the hobby.

Did you pay the $89.50?

mandolino Sep 23, 2016 7:21 pm

KLM about 1995.
I got to platinum in a few years and then went back down to bone or wood, whatever it is. Actually I just got back up to silver.

Joined Qantas about 2001, bit the bullet and paid the $100, had platinum for a while then back to gold and now am LTG.
Burnt a lot of points and got good value out of it. I had started with BAEC but got frustrated that I was doing long haul on budget fares and getting no points so switched to Qantas for that reason.

A little fuzzy on specifics but first Pan Am in early 1989, same time as bought then-cheap tickets New Orleans to Nice, then back from Rome to the U.S. This was in the wake of Pan Am 103 so the deals were significant. A year or so later Continental to play a fun game of $19 RT back and forth from home to San Antonio three times in a day that earned promotional miles enough to go to the UK. Or something.

AA 04/1983
UA 1982(?)

My mileage plus number was in the 20000 range, then "Continental" changed it to
"WT......" It was nice having a 5 digit number.

Aadvantage acct is "B......"

When UA started flights to Oz, 2 RT F tickets were ~75k miles!

AA 12/1986

Aadvantage Account starts with an H – find it weird that my husband's much newer account starts with a number.
