What is the most lucrative way to shop at amazon.com

I already have an amazon credit card which pays 3% cash back. Is there any other way to collect more points/miles?

Last I heard Hawaiian has the only mileage mall that supports Amazon.

Some cards with rotating categories give 5x on Amazon periodically. For example, the Chase Freedom card has announced that Amazon will be one of its 5x participants in the last quarter (Oct-Dec) of this year. Chase Freedom earns Ultimate Rewards points, which cannot be redeemed for airlines/hotels if you only have that card, but there are certain other (annual fee) Chase cards that you can add which will let you transfer any points you earned with Freedom to airlines/hotels (that Ultimate Rewards supports). However, you can't apply for generic (non-partner) personal Chase cards if you applied for (more than) about 5 cards (from any banks) in the past 24 months.

Sallie Mae MasterCard (from Barclays) gives 5% cash back for groceries, gas, and book stores, and Amazon qualifies for the latter. Groceries and gas are each limited at $250/mo, and books at $750.

United has Amazon on the MPX app too.

Funny, when originally scanning this I thought the OP was asking for help on an Amazon river vacation.

Discover has this quarter 5% cash back that can be on top of the givingassistant 5%.

I.e. the Discover IT card. Not the "miles" version.

I shop on Amazon using Amazon gift cards from office supply store for 5x UR points using INK.

Any idea if this stacks with any of the card bonuses? It doesn't appear to with Sallie Mae :(

No, you're purchasing an Amazon giftcard from United so any cards that give bonuses for Amazon.com purchases won't count. Some category bonuses might (they seem to pass along the MCC), and from what I've read AMEX treats it as United purchase (so bonuses for airline).

Sallie Mae card doesn't have anything terribly exciting as far as I know. You get $25 after first purchase, I think, with no special link required.

I would give the contrarian advice to re-examine your spending on Amazon and see if other merchants have what you want cheaper and pay portal bonuses.

First of all, do you live in a state where Amazon collects sales tax? That right there is a 5-9% hit to your bottom line. On top of that you either have to pay for prime, or often wait 2 weeks for things to arrive.

I've discovered that I can buy pretty much everything either cheaper, or same price but without the sales tax, and get faster delivery through many other merchants. There are exceptions of course, but to me Amazon is no longer the go-to place. For electronics and photo equipment I usually buy from B&H. A recent large plumbing parts purchase was from build.com, etc..

Citi Forward (if you have one) also earn 5% TYP.

Just got an email from givingassistant that the 5% cash back on Amazon will be reduced to 1% from Nov 1st... :(

That's so obvious, I feel like a fool to have not thought of it. That's way better than MPX if you're not meeting a minimum spend.

Chase doesn't seem to recognize it as an "airline" purchase. So, when using my Hyatt card, I don't receive 2 points/dollar.

Yes, this is my preferred strategy also. Not sure why more people do not do this. No brainer IMO. Worth 8-9% or so.

Except when Kroger is giving 4x fuel points on GCs. That is usually a bit better, certainly if you buy gas. You can even eBay the fuel points.

I wish Staples/OfficeMax/Depot sold Kroger GCs. Around here they do sell Albertson's, but it no longer has a fuel program.

I am using the Chase Freedom card with Amazon this quarter. 5% cash back on all purchases. Also using some cokereward GC certs for $10 GC per each of my three cokereward accounts at Amazon also. Cokerewards are covered in the SPAM forum. Basically 690 CR points per $10 GC. When I don't have either of these, it's the usual 1% cash back or one of my mile per dollar CCs for Amazon. Nice to hear about another option. So far, my only regular GC purchase at the grocery stores in my area are usually $50 Shell or BP GC for $40, usually when I spend $50 for groceries.

Or do what I do which is keep taking 30 day Prime Trials. Create new email address and use different credit card. Works like a charm everytime.

Amazon is now 10% from Nov 23 - Dec 31 when using your Freedom CC...

Not only Amazon GC's but pretty much everything. Macy's, Red Lobster, PF Changs, Shell Gas, Starbucks, Disney.

Last year I went on a week long Disney trip with family. Total cost was roughly $5,000. Went to OM, bought 5k worth of Disney GC's which can be loaded up to $1,000, and then used them all to pay the trip. 25K UR right there.

Disney GCs can be used to pay for Disney Vacation Club timeshare dues. Very lucrative for those of us who like URs.

They just sent me an email saying limit 5 GCs for this purpose next year.

Also, for those who don't know, it's really 10x the points, which can be redeemed for cashback (in which case it equates to 10% cashback), but can also be used in other ways.

I guess I should now rejoice that Amtrak Guest Rewards (AGR) left Chase (for BofA) and Chase converted my AGR Visa to a Freedom card last month, since that's the only reason I have a Freedom.

The Amazon Store Card, not to be confused with the Amazon CC issued by Chase, gives you 5% cash back on all Amazon purchases...5% cash is, IMHO, about as good as it gets (no annual fee, no maximum).

Having said that, I bought a boatload of GC's using the Amex promo at Smart&Final last year ($25 back when spend $50, or 50% off), and just now Amex had a $15 off $60 at Amazon, so I should be good for 2016. It helps having nearly 20 Amex cards!

Given:
even nearly 10 Amex cards (unless you're counting a bunch of cards on the Amex network but not issued by Amex-the-bank) sounds like a lot, since more than half of them would have to be charge cards (if all were from Amex-the-bank).

According to more recent posts in that thread that's not the case. It applies to both business and personal credit cards. However, some people may have a limit other than 4, plus many people don't understand which of their cards are credit cards and which are cards (or that this rule only applies to credit cards), which makes analysis of datapoints confusing. But if you search that thread for "business" and go the last page of results, you'll get for example a post from someone got denied for a 5th credit card exactly because they erroneously though that business cards didn't count.

One report does not a rule make.

Please go to that thread and read more of it. There are many people there saying that business cards do count in the 4 (or so) credit card limit. I was just giving one example. If you feel that's wrong, please post there, as that is the main FT thread on the subject. Thanks.
