I'm in for $125 already. Looking to reach $250 and get the 2500 bonus plus 15000 miles for the 250 spend. This is an incredible offer. Thanks OP |

Economist is not automatically renewed.
Any other good options for magazines that are not automatically renewed? I sent a message about how the automatic "renewal terms" will affect payout but haven't heard back. My guess based on other posters is that it has to do with not awarding miles for the cost of automatic renewal 1+ year from now. Any experience on this? |

Another option could be to buy a magazines.com gift card, and use it to purchase the magazine subscriptions so that they do not auto-renew. I *think* I did this last year with the United portal - I got a $100 GC and subscribed to New Yorker and Wired which was almost $100 for both of them. I wanted to read both of them, so this worked for me.
Don't forget that for most magazines the print subscription includes access to the web/iPad version. I am usually outside of the US, but have a US address with family, so this worked out very well. We *both* get to read the magazine - my family gets to read it in person and I get to read it on my iPad wherever I happen to be in the world. T&C do not preclude purchasing GCs so it is worth a try. |
Anyone know if the 2,500 bonus for $250 spend is one time, or is it given for every $250 spend?

Seriously, is this a serious offer to distribute magazines to VA institutions? If so, could you provide a bit more info on what you do that takes you on your appointments? I don't mean to pry, but I'd seriously consider such de facto donations. Send a pm if you prefer. BTW, Obama won, read that at my Mammogram last month! Cheers! JudyJFLA |

I'm trying to convince my non-US friends in the country I'm located to jump on this.
Maybe they can set up 2 accounts to maximize the 2.5k bonus. |
Eligible on Magazine subscriptions only (automatically renewed subscriptions are not eligible). |

I have had 15 surgeries in the past and will have two more in the next five months, so I am at either a hospital in Tampa, St. Pete, or the Cape coral clinic about every three weeks for a doctor appt, labs, MRI, or x-rays. Each place has different specialties, so a lot of time in the road, and there are many waiting rooms. Just the lab ag St. pete (Bay Pines) always has at least 50 people waiting when i am there, so having something to read is a plus, same at x-ray. When I started going to the VA in the 1980's it was all old guys from WWII and Korea, now it is young guys from the current conflicts missing body parts, they will be coming into the system for the next fifty years. I get my tidy disability check every month, free care and meds, and do not have to deal with the current health insurance mess, although I did once wait 36 months for a specialty appointment.

Buy AAdvantage miles for 0.8 cents/mile potentially (magazines.com promotion)
The AAdvantage mall has a promotion with magazines.com that gives you 60(!) miles per dollar for all purchases. This is the highest offer per dollar spend of any normal purchase I have ever seen.
If you buy magazine subscriptions for family and friends that's already a good way to 'buy' AA miles for 1.66 cents/mile. Your friends may appreciate the subscription and you get a business class flight to Asia for $1,666 + fees. I have been buying gift cards from magazines.com this year and for every purchase I received the full amount of miles. If you buy a gift card and sell the gift card at abcgiftcards.com you will loose about 50% of the value. However since you get 60 miles per dollar you are essentially buying AA miles for 0.8 cents/mile. This is a great deal! Of course the question is if magazines.com still posts miles for gift card purchases. Also abcgiftcards.com may stop buying the gift cards if more people send them in. So you may have to wait or sell them on ebay (risky!). Screen shots on my blog - though I think this deal is self explaining... http://www.mightytravels.com/1323275..._promotion.php |
I made an order through the portal last week and my confirmation posted in 4 days. Hoping to get same turnaround/confirmation this time.

Is there anyway to take advantage of this if you live in Canada? It seems to only be for US Residents.

I've just cancelled an order with several magazines after going back to see "more info" all are auto renewed. This is a bit tricky - have not found a magazine I'm interested that's NOT part of the automatic renewal service. Any suggestions?

I ordered magazines from magazines.com a long time ago through UR. They all are set for auto-renewal (until you change them) but the points posted without a problem. I really think the clause is intended to make it clear that you get points ONCE - not every time the magazine auto-renews. |

The *new* subscriptions having an auto-renew feature (which will auto renew when the subscription ends) doesn't have a bearing on the miles earn, is how I see it. |
Agreed. Its excluding points from future auto renewals not the initial subscription
|
Can I simply subscribe to a magazine with 900$ subscription and get the miles instead of tons of waisted magazines?

You need to be careful because T&C stated that journals and intl publications were excluded from bonus. As always YMMV.
Seems that the journals are listed as "Print Journal Subscription" and the magazines say "Print Magazine Subscription" next to their "Add to Cart" buttons. Go figure, there are country specific pages for every country except for USA. So no way to browse eligible mags. On each magazine's page there is a top frame above the title containing the country of origin. I've found nothing over $120 that qualifies. For anyone with experience with Cartera, might it work with the "journals" or intl mags? |
if you order and cancel the miles will be removed.
|
people magazine is over and the economist. journals and international do not receive miles
|
you can turn off auto renew by just sending an email when you get the confirmation email, its easy

Please note these terms & conditions: Eligible on Magazine subscriptions only (automatically renewed subscriptions are not eligible). Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. Journals and International Magazines are not eligible. 99% of all their subscriptions are under the "automatically renewed subscriptions"! |

Fair enough about the weeklies, but I'm avoiding too much paper consumption for my mailbox. Measly journals would've been great. I am trying to straddle the line between buying miles AND getting something useful. (e.g. Economist can be had for 3200 miles). |

Or I'm sure s/o here would be willing... |
I received an email from magazine.com requesting that my order was place from aa.com shopping portal, they replied saying it was from Cartera Commerce, which means the same thing correct?
|
Foreign Credit Cards
I contacted Magazines.com, and they say they can process an order with a foreign credit card over the phone, as long as delivery is in the US.
I've now asked if they will honor the miles if I do that. I'll post an update when I hear back! |
If anyone is looking for a place to send magazines..This org is a worthy cause and focuses in on ill children and their families

Has anyone confirmed if the Economist is eligible or not?
Thanks |
