Interesting how it's a Visa now.

Any ideas on how to avoid paying the GST/HST when sharing miles in the current US Airways promotion? Would entering a US address for the credit card billing address work?

It's just a guess, but if your credit card really has a US address, then you should be fine as long as you change your address to that US one in your profile; otherwise, if addresses don't match you may have a problem.

Are the cibc aventura points transferable to aeroplan or they can just be redeemed trough their tarvel rewards center?
thank you

It is my understanding that you cannot move them to Aeroplan. You have to use them within the Aventura program.

Nah you can move them just fine. Be warned, though: minimum 10,000 slice increments.

Better off getting an Amex, though - still 30,000 miles, but no fee :)

I stand corrected: Convert Aventura points to Aeroplan

whoa whoa whoa... really? i just read the page that was being referenced a few posts up, and indeed, there's no explicit mention of Aeroplan, one way or another.

I doubt they would sneak a huge stick in the wheels like this, but with all the CIBC/Aeroplan mess lately.............. we need some official position on this, I think, since on www.cibcaventura.com, it still says you can convert to Aeroplan just fine.

The FT thread has some people who called and got confirmation that these new aventura points cannot be transferred to aeroplan. ymmv

I'd probably take them to court. The Aventura website clearly states "transferable to Aeroplan". If they want a new program that isn't, I'm okay with it, BUT CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE. That's deceptive marketing right there. It's like having an Aeroplan program that can only redeem for toasters.
