For those of you who have redeemed My Points for FF miles. How exactly did it work? An electronic post or a certificate? I'm wondering how long to hold out before "cashing in," as I need the miles to post in time for an October trip (so in September probably).

I claimed 5k on AA using the Vacation Miles. Once you claim the Vacation Miles award, in about a week, you'll get a cert for Vacation Miles, who you then call to exchange these miles for FF miles... the FF miles post electronicly with AA.. and it's been about 2 weeks, but mine still haven't posted yet.

The 'Vacation Miles' award is what confused me. How does this work?

What airlines can get miles for other than AA?

I was unable to find any of this information on the mypoints site.

I never could figure out the whole Vacation Miles deal so I simply cash out the points for Hilton HHonor points...

The process is as burkey outlines (in my brother's case he first received a paper certificate from mypoints, and then he was asked to fax the certificate along with his American airlines number). The process takes some time, so do not hold out.

With Mypoints you can transfer the points to HHonors, Marriott Rewards, Alaska airlines or to the Vacation Miles program.

With Vacation miles you can convert the points one for one for American (only) airlines miles. Or if you have enough points you can redeem the points for ticket with airline of your choice. To me, the Vacation Miles seems to offer the best value for the points. YMMV.

But if you check on the Vacationmiles website, their VacationMiles can also be used to trade in for Delta and Continental FF miles.

Once we get the VacationMiles from Mypoints, can we use them for anything on the VacationMiles site, or only what is offered on the MyPoints site?

One more My Points question:

When I redeem the points for AA miles, does it have to be for my Aadvantage account only? Or can I give them to my spouse?

And in case there's someone out there who's been on the fence about My Points, I'm not one for giving away a bunch of personal info, but I gave it a shot anyway. I've only been a member for three weeks and I already have over 5,000 points (enough for 5,000 frequent flyer miles). So I'd recommend joining if you've been considering it. And, of course, if you're feeling generous, you could put my ID (torr12) or the ID of any other Webflyer member in the referral field and we would be most appreciative (it's www.mypoints.com).

The certificate which MyPoint sends you (for VacationMiles) has your name on it. I do not know if VacationMiles will let you designate someone else or not.

You can give them to your spouse, I sent an e-mail asking if I could do that when I got my certificate, and they said yes.

Just an idea of time to post these miles -- my 5k miles just posted, about 2 1/2 weeks after phoning Vacation Miles and requesting the 5k miles on AA. The agent had told me to expect them anywhere from 3-8 weeks later. Not bad.

5,000 points in 3 weeks is an excellent result. Were these points accrued from purchases or by visiting sites (just curious)? Visiting sites and filling out surveys takes a while to build up points it seems.

ffhound, It was a collection of all of the above.

1. A lot of ten pointers just for visiting.

2. A bunch of 100 pointers for simply registering and getting a user name at various websites (do I remember what they were, heck no, but it didn't cost me a penny), or ordering free catalogues, etc.

3. several 1,000 + pointers for ordering vitamins (the same brand I normally buy and I was almost out) and magazine renewals (which I would have done anyway).

4. And Points for referrals.

MyPoints sometimes have excellent promotions that I take advantage of.

In June, I spent $50 (with free shipping) at Disney.com and got 5000 points for it.

They have a promotion right now for garden.com. Spend $25 and get 2000 points. Not bad.
