Theoretically it sounds like one could infinitely extend his/her status by doing this every year and needing to fly only the 'status match' amount of EQMs to keep the status for 1 year (if matching after July 1st)
I'm sure this is one of those ideas that only sound good on paper though

No, it's actually a good idea. A few years ago, CO matched my AA status. Then a month later, DL matched my CO status.
The problem is that most airlines won't status match if you've been status matched before, or within 3-5 years. Some people have been known to successfully have duplicate, even multiple accounts (different address, etc..) with the same airline. Little risk if you don't accumulate a lot of miles, or care if they discover and cancel your account(s).

Six weeks is a little long. I would resend the request.

- I don't know whether it would fly but one may want to call SPG, HHonors, and Hyatt and ask whether they would match airline status to the one with their hotel program. In the past SPG and HHonors were giving Gold for free to the top tier AA. My 12 year old AA EXP got a free HHonors Gold without even asking or staying a single night at Hilton properties. Of course, YMMV.

Good advice but its so easy to get SPG and Hilton Gold, and Hyatt platinum now. It would be slick if it would work for Diamond!!

As THY changed their sign up process I can still see my request alive and kicking in their system. Hmm...

Airline Status Match Master Thread: 2012 - 2013

Any idea if Delta will extend their status match? If you complete it, you only have status until February 28, 2014. If they extended, I'd rather go for a status match that'll last until 2015.

I'm status matched on United and will finish qualifying in July. Hopefully that extends the status through early 2015. If not, can anyone who has previously had United status via a match tell me if they offer a soft landing if you don't requalify?

They have done so pretty much year, but that's no guarantee that they'll do it this year. My friend is matching from United but she is waiting for the 2015 offer, if that's of any bearing to you.

Thanks for the response. I'm not familiar with Delta and this helps. I'll probably wait for the possible extension.
