Honolulu - LHR

I wonder if I could pick your brains?

I am trying to book 6 tickets for friends going out to Honolulu . The outbound sector is no problem as the connection time in the mainland USA (LAX) is only a couple of hours. However the return sector means a 8 hour plus stopover on the Mainland USA.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips to minimize the stopover time??

specific carrier?....cheapest price?....how about some detail?....

I was looking at both United and BA/AA but its just the connection time back in the USA thats the problem.

Getting quotes of around 5k

Is that 5K for all 6 or is it per person? And is that in coach or business/first? What are the dates?

When are the friends hoping to travel? HA is starting a nonstop from HNL to JFK this summer. That might allow for a much shorter connection.

Ba is a lot better than ua. If you have status with either ua/aa, you can't earn eqm on Hawaiian to the mainland. Remember that lhr also has other airports very close by but typically, lhr is the major hub for internationals.

ua to ord arr 8:02am....aa to lhr dep 9:50 am....connect in the domestic concourses...take a look...

Sorry on the lack of facts!

Ok its LHR/LAX/Honolulu on the outbound

I have got Honolulu/DFW/LHR on the flight back to London but there lies the problem the 8 hour stopover.

1st september till the 9th September

the quote for 5k is for all 6 passengers travelling in economy

I'm assuming that the quote is 5K GBP, not 5K USD.

ITA is quoting 4518 GBP for a roundtrip on UA, via SFO on the outbound, and IAD on the return. About a 6 1/2-hour layover at IAD on the return.

I see a better option for your return on AA - take the morning HNL-LAX flight on AA which will connect to their daily 7:55PM LAX-LHR nonstop flight. Creates a 4-hour connection in LAX. You could also connect onto the 5:55PM BA flight LAX-LHR which would shorten the connecting time in LAX.

That sounds like a good deal to me....5,000/6 is about 800$ a person - that's a tremendous value.

If you're on AA, they'll probably let you buy up to an earlier flight if there's availability for $50/person at DFW. This might be tough with 6 of you though, and I have no idea what loads are like on that route.

Thank you all so much!

Why don't you try and make good use of that time in the US. For example if you can stopover in Chicago then you can see much of the city in 8 hours. There are trains running to downtown that cost $2 and you will get to see a lot of great sites for free. DFW is not that interesting but other cities could be pretty worthwhile. I look at long connections as an opportunity. Its the 4 hour ones that are the worst to me. Once you get into 5 or 6 hours it becomes an opportunity.

A long connection is probably the only reason I will have ever seen any of frankfurt. Even if limited to DFW, rent a car and see the JFK museum or the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Travel via LAX on the return and run over to Disneyland..
