The layover is likely due to the extra needed time to clear Texas Immigration. You did obtain the Texas visas?:D

I booked HNL to LHR in June for 30,000 AA miles... I live in NY, so my "stopover" is EWR and then I continue on to LHR in Oct. =) In my opinion HNL to LHR is a good move because you get an extra leg to London...
