With regard to the agent asking your name -- don't complain. When ever I called CP, they always asked for my name, address, phone number, etc. They used the pretense of making sure my profile was up to date. I of course, was thinking "yeah, yeah -- let's get on with it." Then one day, I got a phone call at work, from CP. They wanted to know if I had just phoned to make some inquiries about my account, which I had not. Turns out, someone had gotten my FF number (I think from a bag tag that fell off) and was passing themself off as me. He quickly hung up as soon as they pressed him for details. About two months later, the same thing happened, with me getting a call at home. This time, the guy tried to book 2 business class tickets. Using the same techniques, they quickly detected him, as well. At that time, CP offered to password protect my account, which I did. Now, whenever I call CP, I have to provide this password before they will proceed. 'Course, now that I think about it, if they just put the password on in the first place, they could have avoided asking me all those questions. Hmmm... maybe they really were checking my profile. Regards, Ken Hamer (whose motto is "Life goes on around me, and I just don't get it.") |
I will confess that in the year before I made Gold Medallion on DL I did use the "Special Services" number, which is for Gold and Platinum members only typically. None of the operators ever said anything to me and this was before they asked you to enter your number before talking to an operator (though even now you can still bypass this).
Also, it seems fifty/fifty whether or not they ask for my name, and I think it's more to check that they do have the right information on the computer, because when they don't ask me for my name they'll usually just say my name and ask if that is correct. |
I second auh2o's position with the exception that I don't mind providing my # first as I then feel that they are upholding the integrity of the special phone #.

Those folks who are elite have worked hard to get there and deserve the better, friendlier service, shorter wait times, etc. I agree with all previous comments, this forum is not a place to share elite numbers.

Now if only they would use caller ID/ANI information to automatically enter your FF number. I almost always am calling from my cell... they should read that number and associate with my account. In cases where the number didn't match with one on file, it would give you the prompt to enter the number.

rocky ~ But with households with multiple FF accounts (which I'm sure many married people can associate with) that wouldn't work so well!

Not only what Beckles said is true, but I know I would not want someone to come over as a guest, and while I am entertaining other guests, go in my bedroom, call the airline, change my ff address, and then order tickets to Paris or something. Sound far fetched??? Maybe, but I would rather keep security to a level that required some entry on my part.
