How many Amex GC threads do we need? Could you have not have posted this in one of the existing threads?

Sorry my apologies. I didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle. |
Where would you buy from, AMEX's website?

Yes, you can get a rebate in addition to your purchase miles using bigcrumbs, and also if you use United Miles, you van purchase via Mypoints for almost 2500 bonus miles. Sometimes the codes do not work on big crumbs but do on my points. In any case, sign up for the 90 free shipping promo, you will save $8.95 an order.

Fee-Free AmEx Gift Cards (for AmEx spending)
Just got an email that AMEX Gift Cards are fee-free when using Promo Code EMMOTCM2, as long as you use your American Express card. Looks like any gift card can work with that promo code. There are free trials for free shipping to reduce the cost on that front, too. Email says that promo ends 6/30/2012 (even though it's a Mother's Day promotion).

Are Amex GC purchases with your SPG Amex treated as cash advances, with interest accruing from the day you buy them? I want to buy a 3K GC from the Amex site via big crumbs.com with only a 3.95 activation fee and free shipping with that code floating around, but only if I'm not going to be dinged with it being a cash advance.

Fee free code EMDECWER. Used today and worked fine.

Registration of Amex GCs?
Several months ago I was able to register an American Express gift card over the phone (a painful process, giving lots of information to someone with limited English fluency in a very distant nation). This evening I tried to register another Amex gift card (purchased locally), and the process completely failed.
Back when I was successful at registering the card, the secret was to press zero on the phone at every prompt. This evening that process finally got me to a recording asking for my "agent code." Dead end! Of course, with the card un-registered, you can't buy anything online or purchase gasoline at the pump. Does anyone here have a way to attach a name, address and ZIP to Amex GCs? Or, do you just use them for local in-store shopping? |

Yes, I did use BC.
Middle Seat...I can only suggest calling back. You will have success. Those reps are really hit or miss. They used to tell me to use the card in a retail setting to activate it somehow, but that was incorrect. |

The personal GC limit is, I think, $5000 per month. Which is not quite enough for my needs. |
Do you still get cashback from sites like BigCrumbs and TCB if you use the coupon code?
I also know that using a Citi card may code the purchase as CA, but what about Citi AA Amex? Should be CA as well? |
From BC:
Cash Back Details & Exclusions Cash back not available on eGift Cards. Cash back is not offered on fee-free promotional codes. So it may not work for cash back. |
I used it for a personal photo gc. It works fine for cb.

I'm getting fees added, what am I doing wrong
I just tried using the EMDECWER code and it seems to be accepted on the AMEX website entered through bigcrumbs but when I go to buy 10 $100 gift cards they want to tack on $39.50 service fee and an $8.95 shipping fee. Does anyone know if there's a newer code or what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the help.

I gave it the old college try but even when I try to buy the $3K personal card I get the "Code is invalid or expired." If someone reads this and knows of a code that currently works please let me know. Thanks.

In any event, for the small benefit ($3.95 off a $3000 order) I prefer to adhere to the BigCrumbs wording and not try it. |

This may have expired or it may be a code that only works on personalized GCs which take about a week to ship.

Really, if you're going to start working this, you should take the free 90 day trial of the expedited shipping. It's UPS overnight. And you don't need a code, since there's no shipping to begin with. Just put a note in your calendar for 80 days, work the GCs hard, and then cancel. Much better - less downtime. |

If you use free shipping and code for free fee will there be problems with BC?
I remember reading somewhere its against their TOS or something. "Cash back is not offered on fee-free promotional codes." Yet, some have reported that they still get cash back. But I don't choose to push my luck. I take the free shipping and pay the $3.95. |

I use a code that lowers the shipping to $3.95 and keeps the $3 fee and get CB

I got this email too from my Costco Amex but since several have posted that if you don't pay the fee you don't get BC cash back then it would be worthless would it not? Or am I missing something?
