Deciding on next CC - thoughts?

So far this year, I've gotten:

- Citi AA Visa Personal (messed up the 2nd personal/business by applying wrong) - 75k
- AMEX Premier Gold - 75k
- AMEX Delta Gold - 50k (oldest travel card I have - Jan '11)
- Chase United - 50k
- Chase Sapphire Preferred - 50k
- BoA Hawaiian Air - 35k
- Barclays USAir - 40k
- Capital One Venture - 80k

Looking for my next card, and was thinking either:

1. Chase Freedom (take advantage of having the Sapphire Preferred and being able to transfer Freedom points to partners; no annual fee)
2. Chase Hyatt (2 free nights, etc..)

Ideally I'd like both, but with 2 Chase cards already (applied same day for Sapphire Preferred and United, got denied 2nd app - United; called up and they approved), I'm not sure if I could get another. It's been around 30 days since I got the last one.

Any advice this? Should I go for one or the other now, wait X days, or try a different card? Suggestions?

I thought Chase required a six-month wait between their card applications, but sounds from the above as if YMHV.

The Chase Freedom/Sapphire Preferred combo is really paying off for me right now. I'd suggest getting that one in time for you to buy gas gift cards before the end of September so you can get the 5x bonus miles on those. Also, I believe there's a $200 offer floating around right now, (20k points) which is pretty awesome considering there's no annual fee ever.

You might get denied on the new Chase cards. Also, consider the SPG card.

30 days

I have had 4 Chase cards at once acquired over the course of a year. The general consensus is you can get approved for 1 Chase card every 30 days; 2 at once is rare and requires a phone call to Chase. Chase has so many good rewards cards I wouldn't want to get on their blacklist.

Decide which Chase card you want first, make extra sure it has been a minimum of 30 days, and apply. Save the second card for later.

What about the Citi AA Business. You mention you did the app wrong, but it's only for the second personal that you need to apply on the same day. If it's been 60+ days since your last app, I'd do the $1500 spend for 75k Citi AA Business.

Messed that one up too - applied around the same time as the Personal card(s), and got a message saying they needed more information and to call within 30 days. I didn't see the email in time and was traveling for business the next few weeks, and now it's almost 2 months since I applied and got the message.

I'm not sure what the protocol is for applying again for that card given the circumstance.

I'm at the same point and ready for my next set of apps. I had to wait out a mortgage refi (closed last week :)) and now I'm ready to see what's out there. So far this year:
  • AMEX Plat for 50K MR points (bumped to 100K)
  • Chase CO OnePass Plus for 50K miles
  • Citi AA personal VISA for 75K miles (didn't realize I could've done Amex at the same time)
  • Chase BA VISA for 100K mi (both me and wife)

Not a lot, but this was my first-time around and didn't want to over-do and overshoot on minimum spend reqs.

Here's what looks good right now:
  • CitiBusiness VISA for 75K miles
  • AMEX HH for up to 62,500 points (easy 50K), no fee
  • AMEX Business Gold for 50K MR, first year fee waved
  • Barclay US VISA for 40K miles (weary of this one)
  • ?

I'm open to suggestions.

Why "weary of this one" for the Barclay U.S. Dividend card for 40k miles?

J rad- think for the Hyatt one, you need to book your 2 nights within a year . this is the reason I didn't apply for this...will wait a bit till I need it for Paris.

Weary of Barclay's habit of offering their top-tier cards with high sign-up bonuses but often approving for the lower-tier card with just 5K bonus. I'm pretty sure I'd have no problems qualifying for the top card (FICO in high 700s) but still... certainly not my top choice. But I may save it for later this month and apply for a hit in US Grand Slam.

The others I forgot to mention are the Chase Priority Club VISA for 60K/80K and possibly the Hyatt one (keep getting offers for it in my email).

Off-topic a bit, but is this confirmed that you can buy gas gift cards and it will be eligible for 5 points on the Chase Freedom card?

I don't think applying for US will get you a hit, but using it will.

If you can handle the spend do the SPG card otherwise the Amex Hilton card is easy.

Barclays pulled the bait and switch on me last year, so know what you mean.
