Deciding on next CC - thoughts?
So far this year, I've gotten:
- Citi AA Visa Personal (messed up the 2nd personal/business by applying wrong) - 75k - AMEX Premier Gold - 75k - AMEX Delta Gold - 50k (oldest travel card I have - Jan '11) - Chase United - 50k - Chase Sapphire Preferred - 50k - BoA Hawaiian Air - 35k - Barclays USAir - 40k - Capital One Venture - 80k Looking for my next card, and was thinking either: 1. Chase Freedom (take advantage of having the Sapphire Preferred and being able to transfer Freedom points to partners; no annual fee) 2. Chase Hyatt (2 free nights, etc..) Ideally I'd like both, but with 2 Chase cards already (applied same day for Sapphire Preferred and United, got denied 2nd app - United; called up and they approved), I'm not sure if I could get another. It's been around 30 days since I got the last one. Any advice this? Should I go for one or the other now, wait X days, or try a different card? Suggestions? |

I thought Chase required a six-month wait between their card applications, but sounds from the above as if YMHV. |

I have had 4 Chase cards at once acquired over the course of a year. The general consensus is you can get approved for 1 Chase card every 30 days; 2 at once is rare and requires a phone call to Chase. Chase has so many good rewards cards I wouldn't want to get on their blacklist.
Decide which Chase card you want first, make extra sure it has been a minimum of 30 days, and apply. Save the second card for later. |
What about the Citi AA Business. You mention you did the app wrong, but it's only for the second personal that you need to apply on the same day. If it's been 60+ days since your last app, I'd do the $1500 spend for 75k Citi AA Business.

I'm not sure what the protocol is for applying again for that card given the circumstance. |
I'm at the same point and ready for my next set of apps. I had to wait out a mortgage refi (closed last week :)) and now I'm ready to see what's out there. So far this year:
Not a lot, but this was my first-time around and didn't want to over-do and overshoot on minimum spend reqs. Here's what looks good right now:
I'm open to suggestions. |
Why "weary of this one" for the Barclay U.S. Dividend card for 40k miles?
J rad- think for the Hyatt one, you need to book your 2 nights within a year . this is the reason I didn't apply for this...will wait a bit till I need it for Paris. |

The others I forgot to mention are the Chase Priority Club VISA for 60K/80K and possibly the Hyatt one (keep getting offers for it in my email). |

The Chase Freedom/Sapphire Preferred combo is really paying off for me right now. I'd suggest getting that one in time for you to buy gas gift cards before the end of September so you can get the 5x bonus miles on those.

I don't think applying for US will get you a hit, but using it will.
If you can handle the spend do the SPG card otherwise the Amex Hilton card is easy. |
Barclays pulled the bait and switch on me last year, so know what you mean.

Weary of Barclay's habit of offering their top-tier cards with high sign-up bonuses but often approving for the lower-tier card with just 5K bonus.

I'd go fir the hyatt card
|
I would go for the Chase Freedom and wait for the hyatt. If you really want a second card, perhaps the Amex Hhonors or another Amex (Business Gold or SPG). You may want to consider waiting a little longer and hope better offers surface.

I suggest you consider the Chase Ink Bold with Ultimate Rewards
25,000 bonus points after your first purchase combinable with your Sapphire points. First year free. Since it is a business card, Chase may give it to you, even though you have several personal cards. If they first refuse, call the reconsideration line (try 888-245-0625, 888-270-2127, and/or 888-245-0625) to tell them that you want a business card to keep your expenses separate. You may read about the card on my website below on the Credit Cards > Bank and Other Travel Cards page. |

I like the Alaska Air Visa. Depending on the offer its an easy 25K-40K points (and a 7500 referral if I refer you !! ) Pretty easy to qualify though usually a lower credit limit ($2500-$7,500)
I've never used my actual AS FF# yet as you can use your American # for all flights on them, yet I still have 36K AS points just from the bonuses in 2011. The big thing is the $99 companion cert which is good on any fare including coach or first class fares! Depending where you live this can work out great. And both ticket earn full FF miles even if you are using your American # on the AS companion flights. I normally do Austin-YVR in summer..$700 regular ticket and $99+ tax for companion. Looking at doing Austin-Maui in First this fall...$1400 reg First and $99 companion.!! And you get a new cert on line each year. Bigshaker |

, but If I can get a fifth Chase card, I would definitely go with the Freedom card.
Thepointsguy explains in his blog, but seems like there's really good value combined with the Sapphire preferred card. I just apply for Sapphire and will also consider the Freedom card next as the combo seems to make sense as no annual fee for this one |
Mine was a Barclays Spirit bait and switch back when my South Texas Coin Laundry was in full swing helping to recapitalize the broken banking system with dollar coins.
Perhaps the loss of my business is the reason why the Postal Service is going to miss the September benefits trust payment.:D

That no longer applies. The terms for the offer have been updated so that you get 40,000 bonus miles no matter which card you get approved for.

I think there has been a recent upgrade to the Chase Ink Buisness Bold, I am seeing 50,000 UR points with a $5,000 spend as of today and not the 25K points I was seeing last week and is being quoted above.
I'm waiting for the rumored 80K point targeted, but I am not receiving the 80K targeted despite having way too much cash in Chase Bank. VB |

I use my Freedom card for all purchases under 10 bucks. It provides me a great earning ratio, in my opinion. I would highly suggest this card if you have a Chase checking account. |

In addition to this, if you have a Chase checking account linked to the Freedom card for overdraft protection, it makes this an even more lethal combination. This linkage gives you the ability to earn 10 points per transaction, with no minimum on the transaction amount. Therefore, one hundred 1 cent transactions will earn you 1,000 points. Well, 1,001 points to be exact. Not bad for a dollar.

So, not sure if you mean I should now get the freedom card and somehow link this to checking and adding additional overdraft protection with the card? Also, not sure how you get the points as you posted above with the overdraft? You could PM me with details if you like. Thanks |
