Interest level in Travel Hacking

I am restating the original post, it was not worded clearly and as a result not received as intended. I'm not worried about credit card interest :p

I've been following the miles game for a few years, mostly lurking. I've felt that the number of people playing the miles game has heightened in the past year with all the action around the mint and the huge CC bonuses being offered. Curious to know what others think.

From what I understand from my weeks into this miles game, it is only worth it if one pays the cc bills on time without accruing interest. If you are going to pay interest, then might as well choose a cc with the lowest interest rate rather than the best miles bonus.

This is basically the point of this whole website.

The thing about the real hacks is, no one is going to post them publicly on this forum, at least not without heavily coding the true meaning. But the bonuses are certainly there for the picking.

it might max out with people setting up accounts for their deceased relatives!, but probably not....the show must go on!

please, no pm's on how to do it!

i agree with what @danpeake said. that's the whole point of FT. i just signed up for the AA cards and will see how it goes. Tread lightly when you start, and then ramp it up. Obviously if you have to pay interests to meet the spending requirements, just do this slowly, and target what you want.

What do you mean by "travel hacking"? How does it differ from taking advantage of known bonus offerings? The word "hacking" implies something illegal or at least unethical.

AlohaDaveKennedy Aug 5, 2011 12:25 pm

The game here, properly played, is not hacking. To call it such impliest you are uncultured and have no appreciation for art. FlyerTalk supports the arts and we just happen to have alot of artists in our art colony. :D

So prove it - come back with enough points for two free nights in a cat 5 Hilton without spending a dime. We gotta have initiation rights for these newbies!:p

haha, my response simply was to the original statement of being 'leery of newbies', and i just want to say there's nothing to be leery of!

i can understand wanting to see what a newbie can accomplish with free stuff in order to see how well a newb does at the travel game. takes time tho... i just applied to the AA cards yesterday. gotta see how that pans out!
