Totally O/T but don't they have to take coins? Legal tender for all debts public and private...

Don't even bother to reply - I'm sure I can find the answer in the Coins thread. :D

thanks. It was rather unsettling but I guess it got some of my family into travel so that's a good outcome in a way.

Although what's also interesting is that lately I have heard horror stories of people getting their AA accounts closed by the airline when this one employee named George [something Russian last name] calls and accuses people of selling or trading miles/awards. They say once he suspects you, you are done.

Well lemme tell ya... I welcome this arse to contact me... I'd be like... HALLO!... ju killed my father... prrrepare to die! (based on subdued evidence that the airlines knew enough to prevent much of it) You should give my entire family platinum status and a few mil miles each for all that noise back in 2001 and I will go right ahead and give or sell my miles to anyone I darn please! Since I have been known to 'give' a few awards out now and then, I seriously cannot wait for his call, especially since our family never asked for nor expected a darn thing back then.

just thot I'd throw that in there. :)MM

funny cuz the first one is doable, wanted by some wives so they can have more kids, and very costly so it would in fact generate many miles.

It's not my situation, but I have seen friends get remarried and then pressured into doing exactly that. Yikes! 1000 miles/dollar wouldn't lure me into that mistake!

My non-ex father-in-law's cremation and urn. The funeral home gladly accepted CCs, but it had been so long since someone used one, it took them about an hour to figure out how to do it.

Helped me get to a Southwest Companion Pass. Grandpa Carl would have laughed about it.

Well, I got stitches on Friday night, after a bicycle accident. Don't know what the bill for that will be yet, but it's sure going on a credit card.

I know you said don't reply, but I thought someone else might want to know :D

The short answer is that federal legal tender laws require creditors to accept payment denominated in dollars, but generally do not require businesses to accept any particular form of payment -- such as cash

“Legal tender” is what makes an official currency official. It means that a creditor must accept federal reserve notes in satisfaction of a debt.

the US Treasury explains on their website, “Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise.”

We are about to use one of our BA cards to replace our air conditioning system (this is NOT a planned purchase). We knew the system was old, but we were hoping it would make it another year.

We have some fans set up to get through these super hot days until we can get the estimates in and the system replaced.

We were just lamenting that we weren't sure we could hit the 30,000 spend by Dec for the BA free companion ticket, but it looks like we will now.

I guess when we fly some place wonderful next year it will feel great, but right now it's the pits.

see, it's for this reason that sometimes when I am in a bad mood, I kinda WANT to have someone provide me with a minor fender bender in our lesser vehicle. We have two cars, Once's nice, one's the one we use to haul wood from home depot lol. (and coins from the po)

I can get my insurance co to let me pay for repairs and then get reimbursed by them in the form of a check--in most cases.

I had to bail my son out of jail (fleeing to avoid capture). Fortunately the bailer took CC, and his attorney took CC. I considered leaving him there for a while to see if he learned a lesson, but he was in the army at the time and would have been AWOL if I did.

glad you got him out. Too many horror stories of parents who left a kid in over night to learn a lesson only to have the system get a hold of them and make matters worse. Best to just beat on em once they are home again.

But if I had this prob and they did not take CCs, I could also coin them hahaha.

Marathon Man Jun 10, 2011 6:00 am

in fact, speaking of that...

If I were to want to buy a $20,000 car and I trade in this car we have, and said to the dealer, well, what will you give me for it? And he says $4 grand... and I could say... ok take it... because there's $16k coins in the trunk lol You cash em in!
