my primary coverage with State Farm covers rental cars....so no need there.

The CC rental car coverage is SECONDARY for US domestic rental. The primary always is your own car insurance policy. However the CC coverage still pays for the deductible should your claim is big enough to file with your own car policy - and be prepared your premium will go up on next renewal...

If you do not have comprehensive coverage on your own car policy, then the CC coverage becomes PRIMARY even domestically.

International rentals the CC coverage is Primary while your own car policy covers NOTHING.

He should. Else the CL might be lost permanently.

He said he's only had the card for a little over a year. I say dump it & ask for a prorated refund on the annual fee!!

A better suggestion is to combine the credit limit with the newer card & then cancel it, -- thus preserving the overall credit & keeping the 'credit utilization' % lower!

On the car rental coverage. I have car insurance and it has a big deductible. Most all credit cards that have car rental insurance (and not all do) are secondary coverage to your own car's insurance unless you don't have car insurance in the first place.
Continental's card has primary coverage...so it covers first and without a deductible.

No--not at all....should I have done that? anyhow, I was planning to leave a 'spot' open in case another CHASE card comes up with a solid bonus.....

Im usually allowed to have 3 cards at a time with them ...Now I just have the SAPPHIRE card....

I just realized that you already cancelled the card, so no way to preserve the credit line!:( Your credit score will take a slight hit due to an increase in your credit utilization -- but if you pay off the balances in full every month, then it's probably not an issue. You would have been better to keep the credit line & then could have reduced/transferred it when the 'right' card deal comes along!@:-)

You should have tried to move most of the CL to the Sapphire card. In the future should you be denied a card from Chase, (regardless you were allowed 3 cards in the past), you would then have the "bargaining chip" to offer moving some CL to the new card.

It is always always a good thing to preserve existing CL especially post financial crisis.

I recommend closing chase accounts only if you plan on churning among their many cards. They’ll issue two cards without questions, if you want three at a time, then you’ll have to call their reconsideration line.

Cancel. Chase is the devil.

Used it for the last time when this Hawaii fare sale went on. Once I pay it off next month it's getting cancelled.

But according to Ingy, it's not a problem to deal with a reconsideration!^

I'm not sure where the 'two card' issue came from, as I have 3 Chase cards currently, & a bunch of AmEx cards!

I have never experienced a "two card" issue with either Chase or Amex. When I applied for a third card from Chase they just adjusted the credits on the other cards to keep the total credit line the same and issued me a third card without asking any questions. Since the total line of credit was high enough to accommodate the minimum for another Platinum Card it was not a problem. I suppose if the total credit line was insufficient they would have had a chat with me about it.

How long after canceling a Chase card (BA, Hyatt, Sapphire) do you have to wait before re-applying for same card and earning the sign-up bonus?

Not true for everyone. I just applied for hubby's 4th card, and he was approved a few days later without calling. However, I had cancelled another chase card about 3 weeks before applying again. I also have 4 cards with them. Anyone have more??

With airlines, I don't think they will give the bonus again unless you wait 2 years between applications. Waiting 2 years worked for me with United and Continental. However, I have been able to get hotel miles again without waiting even a year. Marriott won't give me the hotel certificate again, but they will give me the bonus points.
