Problems with Big Crumbs?

I made 3 purchases through BC in March and received no credit for any of them. I've submitted missing credit tickets over a week ago and still heard nothing. This seems to contrast with my previous experiences with BC where problems were resolved lightening fast. Anyone else have similar problems recently??

Edit: I should mention this is related to mileage accumulation as one of my purchases was giftcards from giftcards.com. However, the other 2 were from other retailers.

QL_714 Mar 29, 2011 5:43 pm

What does this have to do with miles or points?

Maybe he purchased the gift cards with a miles earning credit card? This have just as much to do with miles and points as purchasing dollar coins, which is earning miles through credit card spend.

If you submit a ticket it could take up to a few weeks. Hunt down the Amex gift card thread and read late november/early december posts to get an idea of how much time it can take to get things to post.

I'm going through the same thing - BigCrumbs didn't credit me with my last 3 purchases and I sent in trouble tickets on all of them a solid month ago with no response.

It can take time. They contact the merchant and the merchant has up xx amount of days to get back to bigcrumbs. If you are worried I would post in their forums.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, though our situation doesn't seem to bod well for us getting our money. I am surprised as my previous usage of BC was fantastic and they responded to missing credit inquiries within 1 week or so.

What's the stated period of posting for the merchants in question? In most cases, cash back sites reserve two months or more for everything to show up, especially when the product is a stay or travel that must first e completed.

As an update - my money posted today though its under different "terms" from when I clicked (they switched from a % back to a flat $ back in the mean time)

Let me guess, gift cards? All the sites dropped from a % to $2 to $2.25 each.

I bought some visa gift cards at giftcards.com which were advertised on bigcrumbs as a 2.4% rebate and I was initially credited only $2 per card a couple of days before bigcrumbs published that change in their offer. The missing credit "wizard" would not allow me to submit an inquiry until two weeks had elapsed since the purchase (if I recall correctly). By that time, bigcrumbs had posted an additional credit to my account to cover the difference exactly. So, as far as I can tell, all my credits eventually posted.

Obviously, if the credit is still missing once enough time has elapsed so that bigcrumbs will allow you to submit an inquiry about it, you should do so.

Update 4/15/2011: A credit for the difference posted to my account by the time I was eligible to submit a complaint with their "wizard." So, now everything seems to be OK between bigcrumbs and me.

Well today there's no giftcards.com on BigCrumbs at all.

barristan Apr 12, 2011 2:07 pm

I ordered 3000$ in American Express Gift cards 1/11/2011. Of course the order didn't post, despite my record of click throughs. I launched a missing credit inquiry as soon as it became available.

Time went by.. and by.. and by.. and by..

I followed up with bigcrumbs but they said they were still waiting on American Express sometime in March. Now bigcrumbs hasn't responded to any emails in the last month and I've launched general inquiries (because you can't launch missing credit inquires after 60 days....) that have gone completely ignored.

There is no phone number, no accessible customer support, and it looks like they've no intention of crediting me my 48 dollars of cash back.

It's absolutely infuriating to fight so long and so hard for such a small amount of money. Buyer beware with these people though.. I'd hate to have hundreds of dollars in cashback locked up with these crooks. They can easily go into 'inaccessible' mode and lock up your money for an eternity.

Is there anything else I can do? Some kind of BBB complaint? This is absolutely ridiculous.........

Same thing happened to me for one of my many AMEX GC orders from Dec 31, 2010. (Two orders were placed the same day, and they only credited one) They gave me the same response you got and I pretty much wrote it off as money I'll never see.The other 100+ AMEX GC cashbacks posted though.

I understand it can be frustrating when a purchase goes missing, but you have your facts are wrong. American Express has 90 days to return contact with BigCrumbs.

"Although most retailers will respond within 30 days, our agreement allows them up to 90 days to answer our inquiries.

We apologize for any inconvenience or delay and will contact you with the status of your inquiry as soon as American Express Gift Cards replies or within 90 days, whichever is sooner."

You "may" have waited until March to contact them, which would mean they have till June. I've made many purchases of Amex gift cards and have always been paid out.

They basically can do what they want anytime they want. This is something the cheerleading noobs for these types of sites don’t understand.

AZbba Apr 13, 2011 12:25 am

I made some purchases from walmart.com when mrrebates/aa shopping mall had dropped their rate to 1%/1 point.

At the time bigcrumbs showed 2.4%. Both purchases posted, but they posted with 0.8% cashback.

They said they will contact walmart but haven't heard anything back. I'm also not so sure this is walmart's problem, seems like they were late updating their site to the new rate walmart is paying but they should honor it. It's quite a bit of $$ difference too.

I'm seeing Amex GC. It says that shipping is free and that there is 1.6% cash back. Is this usual? Seems too good to be true, unless I'm missing some catch.

Also do these cards have a fee?

Usually you either get a code to remove the fee or to remove shipping. They may still have a trial free shipping program. It's a good deal if you can liquidate the cards. There are many people still doing it even though you can no longer use them at the mint... "cheerleaders" "noobs" whatever QL wants to call em... people are still buying them and liquidating them without a problem. :)

With 1.6% cash back, there is actually no cost for this right?

No cost, the site just gets a commission from Amex and they pass a % of the $$ on to you. The only cost would be either shipping or the fee, one of which you can use a code remove. There is a whole thread about it, but they can no longer be used at the Mint for coins.

bigcrumbs is huge scam. Made purchase and didn't get credit for it. Submitted missing credit inquiry and it's been 3 month now and NOTHING.

In the meantime, never had ANY problems with mrrebates. Avoid BC

Your poor experience with BC denotes them as a "scam"? If someone has had nothing but superb experiences with them, would that similarly denote them as the best company in the world?

Perhaps if you post the details of your issue someone here could help. Many merchants take 3+ months to fully post purchases and BC might not have information for you yet, as a result?

I would not classify them as a scam but they do seem to have more problems than other sites. You are their mercy and there is not much you can do about it.

You were one of the lucky ones. Many got screwed and only received $8 instead of $48 for each order.

HoKo Apr 17, 2011 9:53 am

In defense of Big Crumbs here is what I went through:

Placed 4 separate $500 GC orders in rapid succession on 3/5/11. This is when giftcards.com was first changing all their payout ratios to be a flat amount rather than a % and there were all sorts of issues with the various shopping portals.

The credits did not post within 24 hours (as they usually did) so I was worried about there being some sort of issue. I waited a week and then emailed BC letting them know they had a linking issue. They responded saying they didn't think so and to just be patient.

BC changed the payout ratio to be flat rather than a % at some point during this waiting period.

I emailed cust service asking if they would be honoring the % rate advertised at the time of my purchase despite the fact that my credits still hadn't even posted. They said yes.

I eventually filed missing credit inquiries after the proper amount of time ahd elapsed. I was eventually credited $2 per order.

Filed yet another missing credit inquiry, this time disputing the amount credited. I was eventually manually credited $10 per order bringing my cashback to the proper amount of $12 per order (I have a feeling giftcards.com did not pay BC this amount, I think BC did the right thing and decided to eat the cost here...no way for me to know this of course but that's my gut feeling)

So at the end of the day it took nearly 2 months to get everything I was entitled to but at the end of the day BC did the right thing

sun_aa Apr 17, 2011 2:41 pm

Similar thing happened to me. I got nothing for 2 weeks. Sent them a missing credit inquiry. Got $8. Sent them a message saying that I had received incorrect credit with a screenshot of the 2.4% offer. Got the full $48. It took some time but I got everything in the end.

abcx Apr 26, 2011 3:12 am

So is bigcrumbs the only way to get cashback on Amex gift card purchases? They certainly seem to have more than an average number of problems.

Also, is there any code that can get me free shipping and no fee on Amex GCs?

thehawk75 Apr 27, 2011 11:54 am

Their customer support (or lack there of) is a little problematic.

Generally all my credits post fine, however, god help you if they miss it.

My last credit still hasn't posted, and this is from Jan. What's worse, follow up with general inquiries (not all the time, 1 a month ago, 1 a week ago, and 1 yesterday), and it's fairly evident they are being ignored. Never a reply back.

You are pretty much at your mercy if they miss your cashback. I've stopped using them since Jan since I'd like to see them credit me before I dip in again. However, I do note that I am still getting referral cashback (which I assume is one of the two in my referral chain from the Conga line from the SPAM section of this site). So, they 'are' still working.

My advice, since they are not all that reliable in crediting cashback, break up large orders into smaller ones if you can to hedge the risk of a missing cashback. You will have no real way of communicating with them unless they want to communicate with you.

I also noticed that their forums are closed to new posts, so, you can't even complain there with hopes of generating some attention from support.

MilesDavis11 Apr 30, 2011 10:03 pm

BigCrumbs not posting credit

My last two major purchases from BigCrumbs have not posted on my account. I made purchases from AMEX, along with another online retailer and neither transaction has posted to my account. My eBay purchases continue to post just fine, but these other two transactions are more substantial, and thus more troubling in that they have not posted. I have submitted missing credit requests with no response. Does anyone have a contact phone number fro anyone at BigCrumbs? I would love to speak to someone at their organization. PM me if possible.

Astrophsx May 1, 2011 7:56 pm

I would be vocal on their forum. It seems to be the best way to get their attention. I agree that they should have more support as they really do not sell any type of product and their income is purely based on transactions made through their website. You would think that they would do more to make sure the user experience is positive. Perhaps adding a live chat feature if they do not want to go to the expense of paying for telephone support?

MSPDeltaDude May 1, 2011 8:17 pm

Ya, I'm DONE with them. Screwed me out of $100+ cashback. Having ZERO problems with Mypoints.

No Fees = EMMOTCM
until 6/30/11

Maxima81 May 18, 2011 12:07 pm

Correct me if I'm wrong - but depending on how you plan to purchase your gift cards, AMEX code GEN374 might be a slightly better deal ($5.95 off the order).

So if you purchase just one card ($200), GEN374 deducts the order fee $3.95, and $2 off shipping.

However, if you purchase multiple cards (2 x $100 cards), the EMMOTCM code works better as it removes all the order fees ($3.95 x 2).

If you plan on ordering any substantial amount of cards you are better off getting the premium shipping for 99. This way all future orders will have no charge of any kind.

AlohaDaveKennedy May 18, 2011 6:31 pm

If ordering AMEX GCS via AMEX CCs for the intent of converting them into nonAMEX GCs and then into small metallic objects, consider the transparency of what you are doing to The Spanish Inquisition at AMEX. Reevaluate and use AMEX CCs to buy what does not look like an obvious GC that can buy cash equivalents that can be deposited to pay off the AMEX CC. In this manner you blind The Spanish Inquisition, take a load off your back and are immune to the vagrancies of the mint. Look around for the opportunities and keeps the details off the public board as you uncover them.
