Which property are you staying at -- the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo (Shinjuku)? I stayed there in Feb. -- it was very nice, & as a diamond, -- the access to the Regency club there was great!^

That's the one! Convenient to all transit, super-helpful (well, this is Japan, everyone is), decent little gym, nice cigar/brandy bar. Only downside is that the cabs got a little confused -- not only did I have to fake my way through Engrish to pronounce it more like "legency," but apparently that name is fairly new, it used to be called the Century or something, and a couple of times we got taken to another, not so nearby, Hyatt place when they just heard "Hyatt."
I'm not surprised that they are offering lower rates these days. In Feb., there was a pre-paid rate of 19k yen -- which was really cheap compared to the regular rates -- but I can imagine that the rates are even lower now! |

Consider this scenario:
Book $1,100 worth of travel using the Capital One Link for Priceline. Earn 4 BONUS points per $ in addition to the normal 2 points. Yield 6,600 Capital One "miles" worth an additional $66 in travel reimbursement, or $1,166 in total value. |
Pay for work travel using Cap One...seems like the best deal :-)

My guess is that the group of Priceline users and the group of folks who would find value in the one redemption option that's been mentioned that is actually worth more than 1 cent/point (Hotel certs) overlaps very little. Priceline users probably use Priceline for most, if not all, of their hotel bookings whereas people who get excited for the $900 Hyatt cert for $510 worth of points probably don't use Priceline much, if ever. I use Priceline quite often and Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain. If you book all of your hotels through Priceline, then the hotel certs aren't of much value to you. But that doesn't mean you're getting more than $1100 for your 110k Cap One points by using them for Priceline reimbursement. A much better option for those folks, and an option that actually increases return, is to redeem for the hotel certs and then trade them for something worth more than the $510 of travel credit you spent on them. You can probably sell the $900 certs on eBay for $700 or so and turn your 110k Cap One points into more than $1400 of Priceline credit. |
Don't get me wrong. I am not a PL user. In fact, I started the thread on the Hyatt forum about the $900 Hyatt certificates and plan to take advantage of that option. I just thought it was an interesting added bonus for those wanting to use their C1 points for PL purchases. If someone plans to use them for PL, they need to charge the purchase to C1 card, so may as well use the C1 link to get the bonus.

Also good to know about the 4 bonus points/$ for using the Cap One card through the Cap One shopping portal for PL purchases. That gives this card a slight advantage over most shopping portals and rebate sites. For example, Fatwallet gives a 3% rebate on PL purchases. Keeping track of all the rebate sites and what's best for each purchase is, in my opinion, not worth the time. Much easier to just use one site, but now I'll look through the Cap One site and see if it makes sense to shop through there for most things. |

there are sites like this one: http://www.cashreporter.com/category...avel-&-leisure that keep track of the rebate sites with best offers for whatever you are buying, there are others but this one is pretty good. |
I just realized that I didn't have to wait for the statement for the Cap One points to post; they posted at the time of purchase. Another nice advantage over competing cards.
Now I will see if I get the redemption (two Hyatt certs) before I've even paid the bill. That would be kind of cool. I agree that the 6% Priceline deal is attractive as well. |

Trade for miles in the Coupon Connection?
I have read this thread since inception, but so far, have not been able to brainstorm anything to add to the mix. It is difficult, since Cap1 has pretty much everything valued at 1 cent per "mile."
Trading Cap1 miles on the Coupon Connection may be one option to get a better value. Cap1 "miles" seem to be pretty liquid, and many of the airlines are tightening up on their award availability, so they may have some added value in that forum. |
I just received the $900 Hyatt gift cert(s) that I had redeemed my C1 'miles' for & can confirm that they are in the form of 3 certs: one for $500 and two for $200 each. They look similar to the Hyatt gift certs that were sold at Costco. They have an expiration date of 6/30/2012!

Anyone know if purchased AA upgrade coupons qualify as travel spend?

Are they transferable? It doesn't have your name pre-populated on the gift certificate? |
