Does one have to register for the this promotion? I got the flyer before I left for vacation a few weeks ago and can't find it anymore. I thought when I initially read it that there was no registration needed.

I believe you have to register, but I think you might be able to secure message Chase via the website to register even without the mailed notice, due to them keeping track who is targeted and who is not.

Closing the card?

This probably deserves a separate thread, but is it maybe time for many of us to close this card? And, if so, is that easily accomplished online?

I don't want to hit the annual fee issue. So now leaves some breathing room on that front.

Thoughts?

I just reread the mailer, and it doesn't say anything about needing to register.

I've closed Chase checking accounts via secure message, so it should be possible to do the same with credit accounts, although I'm not sure. However, I'd call up anyway just to see if they offer you a retention bonus - it can't hurt. Also, I believe that the annual fee is able to be refunded if you cancel anytime before the payment is due for the billing statement in which the annual fee appears. I've done it many times with Amex, although I'm not sure if that practice is standard among card issuers.

Thanks, wanted to make sure.

Incidentally, all these bonus offers including the 10k extra for spend in Apr, May, and Jun, this triple miles promo, 5k for adding a user, plus the 1.25/$1 have convinced me to keep the card for at least another year. I've manged to accrue a ton of miles in the 10 months I've had this card. It may be worth sticking around to hit the bonuses when they come up, well see how they do in 2011.

Not that I won't call in and at least get my retention bonus. :p

We have had the BA card for many years, however we have not received any invitations to participate in any bonus miles this year. Think it does have to do with it being our major spend card.

However, once we qualify for the free companion tix this month we are going to put the card in a drawer for 6 months and see what happens. If there is no inducement we won't use it next year as we have some other targets we want to hit with regards to hotels.

Wonder if those with multiple Chase cards are being dropped from these promotions on the assumption if they aren't using the Chase BA card they will use another Chase card.

My promotion date is Sep. 15 - Nov. 14 and my annual renew Jan. Will I get the points before the renewal?

I wonder how long it takes the bonus miles to post? Both my lady wife and I made the max bonus/$4k spend for September, and are working on October's.

6-8 weeks from the close of the relevant months will take us to or slightly beyond the date (12/1) on which I expect the $75 card fees to post. I see from the mailer's fine print that any change in card status voids the offer. Perhaps this bonus is designed as a means of encouraging members to renew.

Received another mailer today offering a bonus of 5K miles total (but only for my wife's card) if we spend at least $2K in each of October, November & December.

Mine still hasn't posted, even though the next statement has been closed :-/ Maybe I'll write a secure email and see what they say.

The bonus for your September spend? If I may ask, when did your last statement close?

I'm keeping it for at least another year (for myself, not sure what we'll do about my husband's card). My reasons:

- it's my only Chase cc right now
- decent CL
- want the 2 for 1 vouchers (assuming those vouchers can be used to get a free companion ticket for paid tickets as well and not just miles redemption tickets)

Been wondering what people are doing, keeping or closing.

My first bonus showed up on my 11/6/2010 statement and I was a bit confused by the math. After the analysis below, it appears that it's 2.5 miles / $ (as suspected/claimed earlier in the thread) and works on posting date. For some reason, at least in my case, it didn't post the bonus for September on my 10/6 statement. When the bonus showed up on my 11/6 statement, the total left me rather confused, thus the analysis below.

Breakdown if anyone needs to compare:

9/6 statement:
Spending with posting date in September: $13.52

10/6 statement:
Total spending: $3777.34
Total spending with posting date in September: $3777.34
Total spending with posting date in October: $0
No bonus.

11/6 statement:
Total spending: $6076.60
Total spending with posting date in October: 3839.18
Total spending with posting date in November: 2237.42
Bonus: 9,478 promotional miles

September spending (9/6 and 10/6 statements) totals $3790.86.

$3790.86 * 2.5 miles / $ = 9477.15 which rounds up to 9478.

I'm pretty pleased.

Better, it looks like I can expect 3839.18*2.5 = 9598 more promotional miles on my 12/6 statement. And I'm well on my way to the 5k promo for $2k/month for Oct-Dec. And, as of 11/6, I've crossed the $30k threshold. :) Right on target to end at 290k BA at the end of the year between my wife and me.

With all the promos they run, I'm beginning to think about keeping one of our 2 Chase BA's too.
