I gave up trying to use the award calender so I just did that and now am switching my credit card use to CO Chase .

[QUOTE=mikew99;13665247]Nobody can challenge your idea of an excellent value for miles, but in general, using airline miles for hotels yields a relatively poor value, and I can certainly challenge that. :D It might be a good use of orphan miles, or to get out of SkyMiles for good, but that makes it a good idea, not an excellent value.[QUOTE]

Kind of funny how you agree that you can't challenge one's personal idea of "excellent value" yet you end up doing just that.
Anyway, not sure why you are challenging something I never actually claimed.
Yes, most of us are well aware that "in general" using airline miles for hotels probably isn't the best use of them. (But remember, we're talking Skymiles here. :) )
And we're talking excellent value relative to the various circumstances of our own personal travel options.
So, one more time, using Skymiles for hotels can provide...here it comes...an "excellent value" for many of us in certain circumstances.

Of possible interest to the techies on the forum: That is a strange link. Clicking the link gives 7 redirects until you finally land on page #8, https://marketplace.delta.com/index.aspx.

They seem to be legitimate redirects, it's just unusual to see so many.

I have been sitting on about 37K DL miles for almost 3 years now.

I just decided that I need to fly from FRA-NYC for a couple of days to take care of some business. I chose to use the miles for one night hotel in NYC and a 2 day car rental.

Oh, and the flight? I redeemed 80K AA miles for a Y outbound and J return. Not bad considering I just set the trip up 2 nights ago and am flying the 1st week in June.

80k miles 3 days out?
Oh sorry I read DL...I was like, WOW, that's amazing. Now I realize: it's AAmazing...

Or take your miles and redeem them for gift cards, buy yourself something nice or take someone to a nice dinner. ^

Reminds me of a friend of mine who redeemed a 25K award because he wanted to save the $200 in airfare. He certainly though that was an excellent value, and, for him, it very well could have been.

I think it's more accurate to say that it can provide a value that someone might consider excellent, even though it isn't. :D

They have tons of hotel choices nearly anywhere in the world and in places where my Starwood or Hilton points are of no help.....

Wow, they have hotels in London available! Thanks for the link!!! ^

Of course, then the question is how I'd get to London. Surely not with my Skymiles... :td:

You've convinced me. It's nice to know there's finally someone who can tell me if my miles-redemption choices are of the "excellent" type. ;)

Yes, I recently used DL miles to get gift cards from Macy's, Lands End, & Longhorn Steakhouse. Much easier to do than spending hours & days trying to use your miles for a flight. ;)

Well, if his usage permits it, then yes, it could be excellent value for him.

Are these gift cards in the SkyMiles Marketplace? I couldn't find them there.
