Use of miles/points of a decedent
I wish a friend of mine could use the miles and points he had carefully accumulated over many years, never redeeming a single one.
But he cannot. I am now supporting a family through a tough time sorting out his various financial affairs, as he shared more information with me than with his mother who will likely administer his estate. I have enough miles of my own, but I cannot bear to have what he collected go to waste when his family might derive some benefit from them. I have confirmed from certain threads that most programs have T's & C's that prevent transfers, even upon death. if outright transfers are not permitted, does anyone have any experience with administrators/executors having the power to direct use of miles for the benefit of the survivors? In particular, the mother and I would like to make miles/points available for use by surviving brothers without their cognizance of the source, for obvious reasons. The programs, in declining order of importance are: IHG (250,000 points), UA (150,000), US (150,000), AA, and AS. I won't ask anyone to scour T's & C's of any programs; I know I can do that myself so I won't shift such a burden to anyone else. Should anyone have pointers or particularized experience, I'd appreciate it. Thank you. |
My condolences.
Note that I haven't actually read any of these threads, and hope to not have to for a while. United master thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...ad-merged.html US master thread (esp. post #15): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...ter-death.html AA master thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...solidated.html AS thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alask...ens-miles.html Can't find a relevant FT thread for IHG. |
whomever his heir is, can inherit mi's, at least from some airlines.....there are a number of threads on this topic......perhaps someone who is less search impaired than i can help you find them....

I too need to work on my search skills - my life on FT would be easier. Thank you gotoblue! |
