Just snagged SFO-AKL on the NZ nonstop for $396 on ua.com -- seemed to be disappearing so I bought it. Now only seeing $796 for Google Flights-- and $1001 on ua.com
Thanks OP!

Great catch! Just booked a couple for myself. One in February and the other in April. Prices have gone up a bit for SFO - AKL but still a bargain. Smaller hubs are of course still very cheap.

Dead? I managed to book 5 RT's SEA-AKL for Mrs Huge's birthday, but whole months of prices look like they've gone up to $800+ on Matrix & on United, just in the last 15 minutes

I haven't had any luck finding a ticket (out of midwest) since half an hour ago. Google flight was showing 600 in search result but upon selecting the flights it all went up to 1000+

I'm seeing $650 out of Charlotte. Not as low as OP's find, but very good.

update: Errors out, can't book.

Looks dead.

Hope it sticks for those that got in on the deal!

Was able to jump on it for early August out of SFO to AKL with a long layover in Sydney. I can pull it up on UA and have tickets on 016 stock. Wouldn't be a bad way to end summer break.

Looks like it - have a ticket number and was able to reserve seats on the Air New Zealand site for their legs of the itinerary.

I've had the rug pulled out from under me in this spot before. Let's not jinx it!

I'd say we're 75% through the woods at this point.

Is there really a 2 week window before we know if we are truly out of the woods? I’ve read it can be up to a couple of weeks. After that should we expect no trouble at the airport with the tickets months down the line?

So I've decided I'm keeping our family's April SFO-AKL tickets, even though we're going to NZ in December. I wouldn't mind protecting downside risk, in case my wife or I am not able to take the time off in April. I was looking into "Cancel for any reason" travel insurance policies through insuremytrip; I can supposedly get "75% of non-refundable trip cost" refunded if I purchase a policy. Any experience with this? Would they really pay out 75% of the $395/person fare?
