Booked one for early Nov. One night in Singapore, my friend just moved there so it'll be a good opportunity to catch up. Seems a pity to go all the way there and turn right back around.

Anyway, I did UA1 (SFO-SIN) earlier this year, and in E+ exit row/bulkhead it's bearable. Towards the end I was getting a little antsy and just wanted to do anything but be on an airplane, but the Dreamliner really helps. When I arrived I had a 8+ hour layover and was noticeably more refreshed and energetic than on any of my recent transpacs. I'm hoping this will be a similar experience. They do feed you at least 3 meals, and do a bunch of drink services. Getting up and walking around really helps. The worst part of these flights is honestly the discomfort from the bloat you get from being at that altitude for 16+ hours. And there is really nothing you can do about it.

I do agree with you though, I felt so sorry for those in the middle seat in E-. I don't know how that's even possible for someone that's over 40ish and taller than 6 feet to endure. It's really punishing, and the service level and general attitude of the FAs back there doesn't help one bit. I just get this vibe from them that they are so disinterested in their jobs that they take it out on the passengers sometimes.

Anyway, thanks for this deal, this'll get me almost exactly to Plat for next year.

Totally unrelated, but I saw one way from HKG-ATL (via SFO or ORD) for the next few months on United for $400 if anyone needs a cheap flight on that route. I almost never seen anything good one way from Asia to Atlanta. Not a MR though, obviously.

I ended up buying a LAX-PDX-NRT-SIN-NRT-SEA-LAX ticket on DL. Couldn't beat the price. Ended up costing around $445 all in V class. The lower price was E class so you couldn't choose seats or use a GUC. I havent seen prices this low since the SARS M/R's of years back.

There will be 3 of us. I am doing this and spending the night in Sin as well.

If PQD do not matter to you, book via a consolidator to earn more miles.

I would say the only way to make this remotely tolerable is for an Elite member with free E+ access to buy an extra seat with their companion and have 3 seats to themselves with the empty middle. I don't think this is upgradable except with miles and a very hefty co-pay, which brings the cost into W or V class territory anyway.

It will still be ticketed on 016 stock, so the RDM are unlikely to change....this isn't a bulk fare.

Don't you run the risk of violating some rules there? Seems to me this is a bit morally hazardous...

Also what if flight is oversold and your "fake" person gets bumped for a real one?

Also that's $576 a ticket, which bumps the CPM calculation up into the high 3s (assuming companion is also MP and is also earning PQMs).

No, United has a published mechanism for buying an extra seat - the purchase is legitimate and RDM are earned on the extra seat, but no PQM. The extra seat is documented with the passenger's name, appended "extraseat" - however it's the passenger's responsibility to defend the space from poachers and aggressive GAs or FAs trying to fill an overbooked flight.

There is no fake passenger involved.

Consolidator can issue this ITIN in bulk fare, therefore 1k will earn 50% flown miles RDM+100% bonus = 100% flown = 17.5k RDM which worth around $200 maybe?

30,000 miles + $600 co-pay each way. Plus you're on the waitlist based on status. R inventory ahead of time is almost always 0.

30k miles ~ $400 plus $600 = $1000 each way or $2000 RT. But these days one can easily find a decent trip to Asia in P for ~$2500..:)

I'm flying to SIN and then hoping back on the plane a few hours later to head back to LAX. Wish me luck. :p

Yep. Been waitlisted for over 2months as a 1K for the flight that is now less then a month out. Would be really nice to clear to get into the Polaris Lounge. Everyday seems like another seat gets taken on the map.

I'd consider joining but would have to rearrange some work meetings. I'd also have to tack on a DEN-LAX segment but can do that for sub $200 which makes this a good option being based in Denver.

Hopefully you can rearrange your meetings. Let me know if you book this!

I know what you mean. I presume you are WL utilizing your GPU. I just cleared my SFO-HKG for 10/19 (convention traffic) and am still WL for SIN-LAX for 10/30. Generally, SIN-SFO-SIN are tough to clear. Been on it couple times, P fare mostly and other time W fare, I cleared only twice so far this year (1-change date, the other departing on Chinese New Year-3rd day from SIN). Haven't gotten a good read on LAX-SIN yet. Best of Luck
