Transportation options from HGH to Hangzhou city center or PVG. Please add your name and your itinerary if you are interested in meeting other fellow FTers.
1) Taxi to Hangzhou city center, about 100 RMB ($15) for the entire party, not per person, walking from international terminal to domestic terminal (i.e., right turn after you get outside of the international terminal building), you will see taxi queue.
2) Shuttle bus, 20 RMB ($3), to Wulinmen CAAC Ticket Office or East Railway Station Line (two most popular options). The waiting hall for the shuttle bus is at Gate 10 (you can purchase ticket at Gate 14, too) Arrival Hall, on the first floor of the terminal building. Further details, see https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cit...ation.htm#hang
3) Shuttle from Hangzhou city center to PVG, 110 RMB, 3.5 hours: a) Wulinmen Ticket Office Central Hangzhou to PVG: (5:30, 6:10, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00)
b) Hangzhou Dragon Sports Center to PVG, 110 RMB, (7:00, 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00
). Further details, see https://traveladept.com/bus-pudong-hangzhou/
4) Train from Hangzhou East station to Shanghai Hongqiao; less than 100 RMB (~1 hr); then you can take Subway Line #2 to PVG, ~10 RMB and 2 hrs; or shuttle bus (Airport Line #1), about 1 hr, 30 RMB ($4.5), every 15 - 25 minutes. The Hangzhou East ticketing windows are located on 1st Floor, EAST Area of the station. Please allow 20-30 minutes for walking to 2nd floor departure, and security check. The frequency of Hangzhou-Hongqiao trains is as good as that of subways in many US cities.
5) Getting cash at HGH The international terminal at HGH (where you arrive) only has an exchange vendor with hefty fees that is open limited hours. However, the adjacent domestic terminal has a bank ATM. To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.
6 Getting TWOV without issues The advice is to print out your itinerary, hotel reservation, etc., to speed up the procedure at the entry point in China. At SFO, the check-in agents were clueless, so be prepared to get there very early and fight for your boarding passes. Please read the last few pages on this thread for first-hand experiences. Good luck. There is a thread on FT for further details. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-231.html

ATM To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.

Travel information for Beijing and airport:
Beijing will have 2 hubs starting Sept 30,2019. PEK (Beijing Capital International Airport) is original main hub and will continue for Star Alliance flights and Cathay Pacific (including subsidiary Cathay Dragon Air). PKX (Beijing Daxing International Airport, will debut Sept 30, 2019)
planned for airlines of the SkyTeam alliance and One World Alliance (AA, BA, etc. except Cathay Pacific) will be relocated to the new airport. Most flyers taking advantage of this China OJ deal will continue fly through PEK. Some people who use positioning flights through Beijing using non-Star Alliance airlines need to make sure you are flying into PEK, or else need 2hr ground transportation from PKX to PEK.
PEK allows TWOV within 24hr to stay inside security zone airside. This is more convenient for immediate turn than Shanghai-PVG, which force all passengers to exit immigration and customs, then re-check in from land side, even if you have immediate turn within 24hr.

Technically, no stopover, just a long layover.

Ah - as in not landing in HKG and taking off to HGH on the same day??

If so, then indeed you did not have a right to enter. You were allowed entrance as an arrival lounge for your SFO-HKG flight only. So if you tried the next day, since you weren't flying *A, NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Last two runs

I have had the last two runs with outbound booked at W/V classes. I was able to get Upgrades to Polaris business with GPUs for SFO-HKG and ORD-HKG, respectively. United switched B772 aircraft on ORD-HKG flight from pmUA to refitted one with Polaris and Premium Economy seats at T-6 hours. Otherwise, I would have had a much nicer (at least, more spacious), formerly Polaris First seat. The last run would be gone with a much bigger bang for my buck! Thank OP, again, for my numerous China OJ runs (I am not sure that he/she ever posted another message on this thread).

How much extra was the upgrade to W/V from the cheap fares posted here?

The first run was $200+ more, but the second one <$100 more than what I paid for runs occurred in 2017, from US east coast. The second run took me to Xi’an, instead of Hangzhou, China.

Did you purchase a cheaper (K, etc) fare and then upfare later, or just purchase a W/V fare at the beginning? I've always wondered if there's a price difference doing it one way or another...

The latter. But the IT mistake was also a factor. I cannot duplicate it anymore.

Edit: Just checked MileagePlus earning posting: ORD-HKG was posted as ZG (Z stands for upgrade; G is the original booking code). The other two segments were posted with G/V, which were correct.
Edit2: SFO-HKG was also posted as ZG; the rest of my segments for this earlier trip were posted as G.

FYI- I did LAX-NRT-HKG. PEK-NRT-GUM-HNL (155)-LAX-YYZ. Someone said here I would be able to pick up my bags at LAX and drop off from there.

I wasn't. Agent at HNL said it would go to YYZ, Team lead said he wouldn't do it and was a massive dick/ Said he was the real manager there and wouldn't call his manager.

Had to pull a massive story at LAX and force them to pull my bags which took forever as AC already had them.

Sorry to learn about your trouble. Next time, book LAX-YYZ on the following day and you should be fine.

Thanks. I did end up getting them, but one of my bags was completely destroyed. Because I had pulled a story to get them removed, I did not feel comfortable with putting in a claim anymore, considering I had a "meaningful emergency".

For the wiki:

If you are like me, and have a 5-6 hour layover at GUM in the middle of the night, I high suggest you exit the airport completely, take a short cab to Siesta Cafe about 5 mins from the airport. It's a sleep in lounge. They got a pretty hip bottom level with a cereal bar, PC's and a wash up room, the second floor is a sleep zone, with reclining sofa's, dehumidifiers, and it's pitch black.

Cost like 5 an hour i think and was well worth it. We managed to get 4 hours sleep and then drive around a bit GUM.

I don't know if this is mentioned in the thread. I was looking at the receipt of my SFO-HKG-HGH run and noticed a US$15.3 for Hong Kong Airport Passenger Departure Tax. It is charged because the HKG-HGH flight is on the following day of my arrival from SFO. This tax is actually refundable for most people doing the HKG transit and refund request needs to be submit to HKG authority. FYI.

Link here. Looks like you can apply in person for a cash refund at the airport (would appear to need to be a same day connection to go landside; next calendar day or later doesn't appear to qualify for exemption if you go through immigration).

Correct. It is a bit of a hassle for next calendar day connection because counter is landside. You cannot go there and claim during the same trip. But they give you up to one year after travel to claim it, save both boarding passes and you can do it on next trip to HK. Or mail in the request form and they will send you a check, but this way they give you only 4 weeks after travel to claim.

Hi all,

Are there any of those UA MR deals for the next few months (Jan, Feb, Mar)? I'm flexible departing from either YUL, BTV, or ORD and returning to YUL.
Earlier this year (Apr 2018) I did the following itinerary BTV-HKG, HKG-HGH, PVG-YUL for about 330 USD.
I haven't seen the wikipage schedule updated for a while.

FYI, I travel between YUL and ORD very frequently, and sometimes I find similar RT fares by doing YUL-ORD, 3 day stay, ORD-(SJU or MEX), SJU or MEX- YUL. This way I gain good PQMs and enjoy warmer weather for same price. Lately, I've also looked at YUL-ORD, ORD-HNL or OGG, HNL-OGG to YUL too, but haven't tried it yet.

Thanks for any advice.
