Thank god - had it been anything else I would have been forced to buy it :D

Not in front of my computer to verify, but I believe my trip to IST originally on KL was an R and it earned 100%.

jfk747 Feb 18, 2013 5:36 pm

R class earns 100%.

TechMarauder Feb 18, 2013 5:48 pm

Great deal from here on KL! Too bad I'm on the GIG deal on AA for 480 over mem day!

Poor you! :D But agree the number of good deals to interesting places is a bit overwhelming at the moment. I seem to have used up most of my free weekends until August.

arthurhs Feb 18, 2013 6:58 pm

Good deal @ $787. Just booked a run from IAD w/ a 12 layover in Paris. Figured I should spend a few hours outside CDG this time.

How often do good fares like this pop up for SA?

Good find! Too bad the V fare goes up to $1900+... otherwise it would have been nice to use a GPU on that A380.

kdinino Feb 18, 2013 10:35 pm

So based on fare rules, provided I leave by may 31st I have to return the following Sunday? or a month later at most? can't seem to find anything in late may w/ a june return and want to make sure I am reading the fare rules right

Or 150% if you're lucky, as I was last year on this same run out of IAD. Looking into this one now... Great find.

Up to one month stay is allowed, but there needs to be availability (R space) to get a similar price....

Travelomania Feb 19, 2013 7:47 pm

Has anyone been able to route thru and add a stopover in CDG ?

The KL fare allows it (+$100 and +French taxes):

2 FREE STOPOVERS PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT - 1 IN EACH DIRECTION IN JNB. AND - 2 STOPOVERS PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT - 1 IN EACH DIRECTION IN PAR AT USD 100.00 EACH.

I saw about $900ai with outbound CDG stopover....

JHL77 Feb 19, 2013 8:56 pm

Are you guys booking on OTA or KLM site?

Deltahater Feb 19, 2013 9:39 pm

OTA...

Only reason I asked was for some of the old rumors about mileage crediting issues on OTAs, but I guess since this is partner KLM it shouldn't matter. Anyways, booked for memorial day weekend with a long layover in AMS! Anyone else?

Yes, I noticed the $100.- stopover again, hence my question - it apparently is/was allowed on all fares that I've used before in past years.
However, previously I've never been able to build in a stop-over @ CDG and need one now desperately for a family reunion in May :D

xolinlevh Feb 20, 2013 4:51 pm

If this is still around after a few more paychecks...maybe!

Travelomania Feb 21, 2013 11:53 am

Before the going gets tough next year - just booked my second KL trip to CPT so far this year - 2 tix with Flexperks for nada and earn 22.776 miles x 2 (100% bonus) each time along the way :D

sefrischling Feb 21, 2013 8:46 pm

I wish I could book this for early March with a one night stop over.

ICClouseau Feb 24, 2013 6:18 pm

Similar fares to this are still around. Just booked IAH-DTW-AMS-JNB, CPT-JNB-CDG-IAH for a 1.5 week trip in late may/early June for $824 ai (3.9 cpm) through AF. Class R so earns 100% MQMs with DL. DL/KL equipment on the outbound and SA/AF equipment on the inbound. Great deal and available on multiple days in May and June.

I had been reading the board for awhile and figured I had to share. Hopefully others can take advantage of the deal as well!

dheelus Feb 26, 2013 10:11 am

Booked!

Booked on KLM directly

Outbound:
25-May IAH-AMS(+1)-JNB-CPT(+1)

Inbound:
01-Jun CPT-AMS(+1)-IAH(+1)

I'm combining this with the US Memorial Day holiday on 27-May to make it a mini-vacation.

---Thanks a ton, OP!

bsagator Feb 27, 2013 9:29 am

I found the same fare on DL.com, but it shows up as an (R) fare code, meaning it will earn 0 miles. It's also an (R) fare code on KLM, but DL.com says it will earn 100% MQM, and 100% Mileage Bonus. So if my wife and I book an actual trip on Airfrance or KLM's respective website, we will earn our MQM? We have always wanted to go to South Africa, and I don't think we can pass up this fare.

The "R" class is KLM's coded "R" class. Meaning: it earns 100% DL Skymiles. I just returned last night and all the miles have posted in my Skymiles account.

My booking is on KL marketed flights - 'R' outbound and 'N' inbound. Both earn 100% MQMs on DL per website.

RDATL Feb 27, 2013 3:05 pm

Sorry for the amateur question, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to see the fare code on the KL website. Any insight?

Once you select your flights, click on the More Conditions hyperlink which will open a small popup window with flight details including booking class.

HTH.

Beware of these "good deals" to JNB/CPT -- the LH segments rarely are eligible for any miles on UA! I got burned last year on the FRA-JNB leg -- you need to verify that the booking class with LH is eligible.

RustyC Mar 1, 2013 10:57 am

Did this as a 6-dayer last year for similar fare $$$, only out of Washington. I get tired just thinking of trying to do the turn over a holiday weekend, but I guess I'm just getting old. Spent tons of time finagling the U.S.-AMS links to create as close to 23-hour layovers in AMS as I could on both the outbound and return, and that looks pretty do-able with this one as well. Was very lucky to get op-upped on the AMS-CPT on the outbound. If I were booking again I'd really try to get the CPT-AMS on the return rather than going through JNB, but that seems available only on a few dates. FWIW, if memory serves it was a real hassle to exchange cash in rand back to $ at the airport (fill out a form, etc.) Not at all like Asia.

Cape Town is definitely worth getting out & seeing if you haven't yet.
