Consolidated "ORD Hotel" thread
Flying SAN-ORD-FRA on Saturday, 2/16, I hope, fingers crossed. We SAN folk just don't GET weather.
Backup plan is to reserve airport hotel for Sat night. Would prefer something with a shuttle, something around $100, something SPG, and most importantly, something with a flexible cancellation policy. Am seeing notes of must be over 21, ID required. Are these hotels as unpleasant as JFK airport hotels? I'm old enough to value comfort over cost - to a point. Or should I just Priceline it, hope I don't need it and consider it part of the cost of the trip? |

hmm, the Sheraton Gateway Suites is also $89 (prepaid Starpicks, $119 for cancelable BAR), plus 1000 bonus points with the "Work to Live" promo. It has a 24-hour shuttle and an indoor pool, and is just outside the airport grounds. It's my preferred SPG point run location.
Besides the Westin ORD, the other airport-area SPGs are a little more distant although I think they all provide shuttles. Those may have lower BAR rates, too. ORD is surrounded by many offices, unlike JFK, and the hotels reflect that; they're the very definition of boring and corporate. |
I'm guessing these near-$100/night prices are due to it being a Saturday; normally hotels around ORD seem to be $150+ during the week, and that's even for a Hampton Inn!

Best ord hotel
I know the hilton is on site, but what is the nicest hotel at (near) o'hare (I am willing to take a shuttle). Is it the hyhatt regency or the westin???
Based on what some of my collegues have said; The Inter Continental. The Renaissance, and aLoft are new properties and in good shape. The Westin is fine and Hyatt Regency is not my favorite.
The Westin and Hyatt are nice as is the Marriott. However, I am not sure that it is worth the shuttle ride in that the Airport Hilton is SO convienient and has a couple of nice restaurants. It I was to go off site, I would probably pick the Marriott because the food is good, service is solid and facility is well run. Westin and Hyatt are a bit large and convention focused for my tastes, but good as well.
When cost isn't an object, and there is an Intercontinental that would always be my choice.
I've stayed at the Ren a few times and I like it; LCD tv's, nice big rooms, etc..
I've enjoyed the Rosemont Hotel (formerly Sofitel) and would recommend it again in a heartbeat.
There are several Marriott/Renaissance properties in the area. The best is the Ren in Schaumberg, but it's a bit too far to have an airport shuttle. The other Ren is a Ren Suites, which provides extra space in a standard room.
Given the heavy traffic coming in and out of the airport I would not go any further than the Ohare Marriott.
I enjoyed the Westin when I was stuck there due to weather at ORD. Staff seemed to be very attentive and property was in decent shape.
